And so, for a quick payday, they didn't hesitate to lie through their teeth.
After all, they wouldn't be the ones taking the fall, so what did it matter if they spun a little story?
Seeing them all united in their hostility, Willow couldn't help but laugh.
Julian's gaze flickered with conflicting emotions before he took a long, hard look at Tessa.
She looked battered and miserable, currently covering her face and sobbing.
Julian couldn't help but wonder if pushing the issue further meant he would never find out what happened to their father.
Just the thought of it made his heart tremble uncontrollably.
Deep down, Julian knew the chances of their father returning were slim, but as a son, even if there was only a one percent chance, he didn't want to give it up.
Besides...
Julian harbored a deeper hope. He wondered if, should their father return, the rift between them and Willow could finally be completely erased.
He didn't want things to continue like this.
Closing his eyes briefly, Julian asked softly, "Willow, I know we've done a lot of things to wrong you in the past, but making a scene like this really isn't appropriate..."
A flicker of surprise crossed Willow's face, quickly replaced by a derisive scoff.
She said, "Julian, and here I thought you'd finally grown a conscience. Turns out you haven't changed a bit."
Julian's face stiffened. In that moment, a powerful urge to take his words back washed over him.
He had a sinking feeling that he was slowly, irreparably tearing the rift between him and Willow even wider... until it could never be fixed.
Willow's comment was merely an observation; she didn't feel much of anything else. She had long experienced just how deeply the Shaw family favored Tessa, so hearing Julian's words came as no surprise.
