Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 382

Even if something really happened to Willow, she figured she could walk away unscathed.

Never in her wildest dreams did she expect reality to hit her this hard just a few hours later!

After a brief moment of shock, Scarlett barely managed to collect herself. She shook her head frantically. "Daphne, I never wanted to frame you! This was all an accident. Just listen to me, please!"

Daphne's eyes were practically dripping with venom. "Scarlett, you'd better tell the truth, or else..."

Scarlett flinched. Before she could even open her mouth, Willow let out a soft laugh and casually chimed in, "Daphne, are you intentionally threatening a witness?"

Daphne choked on her words, instantly falling silent.

The King's icy gaze settled on Scarlett's face. "You claimed earlier that Daphne ordered you to poison Willow?"

Scarlett snapped back to reality and shook her head vigorously. "There was no poisoning! Your Majesty, please investigate thoroughly! I am just a lowly maid. How could I possibly afford to buy poison?"

The King furrowed his brow, having no patience to argue about the poisoning itself. He pressed on, "Did Daphne order you to do this? Is that true or not?"

Scarlett's body went entirely rigid. She looked up, caught Daphne's chilling glare, and then slowly lowered her head.

It was in this moment that Scarlett fully realized her friendship with Daphne was over, regardless of whether she confessed or not.

But if she confessed, the entirety of the blame would fall squarely on her shoulders. She was just a maid with zero backing. If things escalated to that point, she would be completely and utterly dead.

With that grim thought in mind, she forced herself to say, "I... Daphne didn't explicitly order me to, but she hinted at it multiple times... She said she wanted Willow to disappear from this world."
