She couldn't help but glance at Lucian. He seemed to have fully anticipated the King's tactics, his eyes harboring a layer of frost.
Scarlett looked up in a complete daze, utter panic written across her face. She knew she hadn't laced the needle with poison, and she had no idea where this so-called toxin had even come from. Did they plan to kill Willow all along, and she was simply the hand-picked scapegoat?
Scarlett felt as though she had been plunged into freezing water, her fingers trembling uncontrollably.
Moments later, a guard stepped forward, presenting the evidence.
The King merely spared it a fleeting glance before handing it directly to Willow. "Miss Shaw, surely now you can believe that Daphne is entirely innocent?"
Willow looked down with a half-smile, examining the evidence carefully.
She had to admit, the King was thorough. The forged receipt detailing Scarlett's purchase of the poison was incredibly convincing. If it had been anyone else, they absolutely would have fallen for the lie.
As Willow stared at the simple piece of paper, her thoughts began to race.
Over the years, just how many innocent people had Daphne destroyed using exactly these kinds of methods?
No wonder she was so fearless. No matter what she did, someone was always there, bending over backwards to clear her name.
Willow let out a soft chuckle and passed the evidence to Lucian.
Lucian glanced at it twice before turning his frigid gaze onto the King. "The evidence is flawed."
The King's grip on his scepter tightened instinctively, his eyes sharpening into daggers. "Lucian, know when to stop. You demanded evidence, and I provided it. You demanded Daphne be punished, and I did that too. Why must you make this so difficult?"
Lucian let out a low laugh. "Weren't you the ones who made it difficult in the first place?"
His tone was unsettlingly calm. "According to your so-called evidence, Scarlett purchased the serum from The Denali Network. How unfortunate for you that I acquired The Denali Network a month ago. All illicit substances were strictly banned and incinerated. You couldn't have bought this poison if you tried."
