As if reading her darkest thoughts, Lucian's brow instantly pulled tight, and his arms locked around her in a vise grip. "Don't even think about pushing me away, Willow! If you refuse my help openly, I'll just tear them down from the shadows. I will make sure every single person in this world knows that our fates are tied together. You can't shake me."
A hot, stinging sensation flooded her eyes, rendering her completely incapable of forming a coherent sentence.
He pressed a tender, lingering kiss against her earlobe. "There's something else. The rumors were wrong. That fire didn't claim the rest of your family. Aside from the young daughter who escaped, there was a little boy who ended up lost overseas. That's the Lost Lowell Heir, your biological uncle. Pull yourself together, honey, and I'll help you find him. Deal?"
Her heart gave a violent jolt before a watery, breathless laugh escaped her lips. "Deal."
Before her mother had taken her last breath, she must have been desperate for vengeance, too.
Closing her eyes, she surrendered to the safety of his embrace in the quiet room.
It wasn't until her turbulent emotions had completely settled that she finally crawled into bed.
Early the next morning, burying her vengeance deep beneath an icy exterior, she quietly went through her morning routine and prepared to head to the palace.
After all, her mere presence there made her the ultimate bait. Her enemies would swarm her like sharks to blood, giving her the perfect opportunity to slaughter them all in one fell swoop.
She was in no rush.
The only ones who needed to panic were those cowardly parasites hiding in the dark!
After dressing, Lucian personally escorted her to the royal grounds. He had a mountain of his own family chaos to deal with, specifically dragging Dominic Jagger back for judgment, so he only stayed long enough to ensure she was safely inside the gates.
Given his ruthless warning the day before, King Alaric would never let anything happen to her on his watch.
Before leaving, he made sure to remind her one last time, "Call me the second you need anything."
She nodded, then turned and began her walk toward the Solarian Concert Hall.
Just before she could step through the majestic double doors, a terribly familiar figure caught her eye.
In an instant, her brow creased in pure annoyance. What the hell was she doing here?
Sensing someone approaching, the woman glanced over her shoulder, flashing her signature sickly-sweet smile.
