Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 48

Her assistant?

So Tessa could inevitably screw up, force Willow to step in and save Asher's life, and then steal all the credit?

Did she look like a charity worker?

Besides, she had mentally assessed Asher's vitals before leaving the room. He wasn't going to die within the next five days.

At worst, he would just have to suffer in agony until his actual doctor returned.

She was done swallowing her pride and taking the fall just to save people who despised her.

She didn't look back, walking out of the hospital with absolute finality.

A flicker of hidden panic flashed in Tessa's eyes as she watched her leave.

Leo was practically vibrating with rage. "Saving her life was the biggest mistake Asher ever made!"

He yelled the words, but deep down, a strange, suffocating unease was creeping into his chest.

Willow used to care about Asher more than anything. How could she just walk away like that?

If she could be this cold to Asher, what did that mean for the rest of them...?

He shoved the thought down, using his anger to mask the rising tide of panic.

Xavier rubbed his temples, his voice exhausted. "Enough. Asher is the priority."

Julian turned to Elias. "I'll have my people transfer him to the Landon Medical Center. Let Tessa take charge of his care."

Since it was a private hospital owned by his family, Elias nodded effortlessly. "Done. I'll have the head of the department assist Tessa."

A wave of massive relief washed over Tessa. She knew perfectly well she lacked the skills for this surgery, which was exactly why she had tried to trap Willow into being her assistant.

If the surgery failed, she could have blamed the entire disaster on Willow's incompetence.
