Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 56

At this point, large teardrops rolled down Tessa's face. "It's all my fault. If I had been a little more capable, Leo wouldn't have been forced to kneel to Willow."

Tessa always had a good sense of how to complain. She knew better than to overplay her hand, so she stopped here, completely avoiding any mention of her own grievances.

But she knew Asher had always cared deeply about her feelings. Even if she didn't spell it out, he would definitely comfort her, teach Willow a lesson, and vent her anger for her!

She waited for a full thirty seconds without hearing him say a single word. Only then did she realize something was wrong and looked at him uneasily.

Asher's dark gaze was fixed on her, betraying no emotion. She opened her mouth to say something else, but he spoke weakly. "Tessa, I just woke up from a coma. I'm not in the mood to comfort you. I'm very tired. I want to rest."

Her mind went blank for a second, her fingertips trembling slightly. She apologized profusely, "Asher, I didn't want you to comfort me. I was just afraid you were bored, so..."

The rest of her words died in her throat under his emotionless stare. She couldn't continue.

She lowered her eyes like a child who had done something wrong, fidgeting nervously with her fingers.

Xavier comforted her, "Alright, he's just too tired. He doesn't blame you. Let him rest a little longer, okay?"

She nodded repeatedly, getting up and leaving the room, looking back every few steps. "Asher, I'll come see you when you're feeling a bit better."

Asher didn't reply, merely staring blankly at the ceiling, lost in thought.

Tessa took a deep breath and walked out with the rest of the Shaw family, closing the door behind her.

Elias's mind was consumed by Willow's words. He had no mood to comfort her either, merely tossing out a hasty, "I have things to handle at the company. I'm leaving."
