Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 57

Xavier took a deep breath, then turned to look at Tessa. She had her eyes cast downward, sitting there uneasily and fidgeting with her fingers, seemingly oblivious to what had just happened.

He opened his mouth softly. "Tessa..."

She paused, looking up at him in confusion. Then, he asked gently, "Would you be willing to help me out?"

Her body stiffened, her gaze dodging his slightly, before she replied, "Xavier, how do you want me to help you? Do you want me to ask Elias for money?"

Since it was pointed out so directly, a flash of embarrassment crossed his face, but he still nodded.

He didn't want to go begging Willow. Her words had been too absolute, and he refused to bow his head.

"But..." Tessa's tone carried a hint of a sob, "I just married Elias. If I ask him for money now, won't he think I'm a gold digger? Xavier, the Landon family already looks down on me because I'm an orphan. I don't want to be mocked anymore..."

In the past, whenever she said things like this, he would immediately feel a pang of heartache and choose not to put her in a difficult position, figuring out a solution himself.

But now, he only felt frustrated.

In order to make the Landon family respect her and ensure she didn't suffer any grievances, he had given her almost half of his assets, including the dowry their mother had once left for Willow.

He had poured his heart and soul into treating her well, yet all he got in return was: I don't want to be looked down upon.

What about him? Had she ever thought about his feelings from the very beginning?

Inappropriately, Xavier thought of Willow. He remembered when their parents had just passed away. The company was in a desperate situation, and the surrounding shareholders were eyeing him like a piece of meat, wanting to kick him out of The Shaw Group.
