Betrayed by My Mafia Brother novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Nerina slid the watch toward me, her face twisting slowly into something ugly. Her smile turned chilling.

“What’s the matter? I thought you loved this watch. Loved it so much you just had to take it. Now I’m

giving it to you. Aren’t you happy?”

That watch was a gift from my brother to Nerina. It was also the reason I’d spent three years in prison.

After Dad died in the war, Mom took the survivor’s benefits and ran. Left me and my brother to fend for

ourselves. So my brother joined a crew, tracking smuggling routes for ships. Later, he caught the Godfather’s

attention and started managing casinos. But as his power grew, he moved into legitimate business.

I knew it was because of Dad. Dad was a good man. An honest soldier. He wouldn’t have wanted us to

become criminals.

Then my brother found Nerina at the docks. Her father had just died too. He brought her home.

I didn’t want her there at first. My brother said, “Nerina’s just as pitiful as we are. You at least have me.

She has nothing. Be generous, Emilia. She won’t get in the way.”

But she did get in the way. He spoiled her rotten. Toys, watches, luxury bags, whatever she wanted, she got. In two years, he’d spent millions on her. Money he’d nearly killed himself earning. I told him to stop spending so much. I worried about him.

And Nerina hated me for it.

She hid that watch under my pillow. Then she cried to my brother, said I stole it.

He lost it. Made me kneel in the rain and confess.

“From the day I got made, I told you, we don’t steal. We’re not scumbags. How the hell did I end up with a sister like you? You’re just like her. Just like the mother who took the money and ran.”

I had a fever by then. Cried and told him I didn’t do it. He didn’t believe me.

The next day, he hired the best lawyer he could find and took me to court. My own brother. In court.

Testifying against me.

I got three years. Became a joke. Emilia Romano, the thief.

Before I went in, the old Godfather and even the lawyer tried to talk him down. “Three years will ruin her.

You’ll ruin her life.”

He didn’t budge. “Even if Emilia’s ruined, I’ll take care of her. But she stole something. She needs to

For three years, he visited every month. Asked if I knew I was wrong.

I never saw him. Just sent messages through the guards: I didn’t steal anything.

Every time, the guard would come back and sigh. “He doesn’t believe you.”

Disappointment piled up. Then turned into something worse. Despair.

I felt like the whole world had abandoned me. I used to have a brother who loved me. Now I had no one.

Seeing that watch again broke something in me. I flipped the box off the table. The watch hit the floor

with a thud.

Nerina froze, fake-stunned. My brother’s face went dark.

“She’s trying to be nice. She doesn’t even blame you anymore. What’s wrong with you?”

I sat there shaking, pale as death.

“You think just ’cause you’re out, you can act like this? Pick up the watch and apologize to her. Now.”

“Apologize? For what?”
