The room Josie prepared for Xylia and Joshua was a guest bedroom in the main building of the estate.

The guest bedroom was huge, with a distinctly royal Western vibe to its decor.

The goldthemed decor throughout the room made the whole place feel luxurious and decadent.

Xylia couldn’t help but marvel.

I never would’ve thought Josie had royal blood. That’s a real eyeopener, she said.

Joshua, however, didn’t show any reaction.

He went straight to the bed and sat down, the fatigue written all over his face.

Seeing Joshua like that, Xylia went over and sat down next to him.

Worried, she reached out and took his hand.

Are you not feeling well?she asked.

Joshua was always the picture of health. As a workaholic CEO, jetting off for business deals overseas was just part of his

routine.

Getting airsick? Not a chance.

Xylia thought, He must be feeling unwell for some other reason.

With her free hand, Xylia reached out and gently touched the back of his head.

Does it hurt right here?Xylia asked softly.

Joshua was about to say something, but Xylia’s tone turned serious.

Don’t lie to me,she said.

Joshua opened his mouth, then let out a sigh.

Yeah, it hurts a bit,he admitted. Last time Noelle flew me back to Jupiton, my head hurt a little on the plane too, but it wasn’t nearly this bad, and it didn’t stick around like it is now.

Xylia’s heart skipped a beat.

The chip is affecting him more and more, she thought.

If this keeps up, his life might really be at risk

Thankfully, we’ve made it to Manedom, Xylia thought, feeling a bit relieved.

Xylia scooted closer and hugged Joshua night.

Tomorrow we’ll go see the doctor and get you checked out she said softly Once we get that chip out of you, you’ll neve have to worry about the pain when you fly again

Joshua pulled her into his arms, holding her close.

Alright, I trust you,he replied softly.

Both of them were exhausted, so they got ready for bed and lay down to rest.

They ended up sleeping straight through until nightfall.

When Xylia woke up, she felt groggy and a little out of it.

The room was unfamiliar, the air felt different, and the darkness was the kind that made her uneasy.

It felt eerily similar to that time when Richard snatched her away to Daltonia.

A wave of panic hit her, and she instinctively tried to sit up.

A hand around her waist pulled her firmly back down.

Joshua’s familiar scent lingered in the air, and her racing heart began to settle.

She buried her face in Joshua’s chest for a moment, letting herself relax in his arms.

Joshua slowly woke up, feeling Xylia’s warmth in his arms. He pulled her closer, holding her tight.

What’s wrong?he asked softly.

He could sense Xylia’s tension.

But I can’t tell why. Did she have a nightmare?Joshua thought to himself.

He asked again, What’s wrong?

Xylia nodded, leaning into him.

I just need to hold you for a while. I’ll be fine soon, she murmured.

Joshua stayed perfectly still, letting Xylia hold onto him for as long as she needed.

It wasn’t until the soft sound of footsteps came from outside the door that Xylia stirred, finally lifting her head from Joshua’s

chest.

A moment later, there was a soft knock at the door, and Josie called out from the hallway.

Xylia? Are you guys awake?Josie called out.

Yeah, we’re up, Xylia replied.

Xylia replied.

Josie’s voice got a bit louder from the hallway.

Food’s ready! Come grab a bite now that you’re up,she called out.

Alright, give us a sec, we’ll be right out, Xylia replied.

After Josie left, Xylia was the first to get up.

Outside, dusk had settled in, and with the walls shutting out what little daylight remained, the room felt even gloomier and more closed off.

Xylia turned on the light and checked her phone for the time.

It was already 6 PM.

She turned to look at Joshua, who was still lying in bed.

Come on, get up and eat,” Xylia said gently. You’ve got that medical exam tomorrow, and you can’t have anything after eight, so let’s put something in your stomach while you still can.

Joshua looked up at her from the bed.

Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips.

Alright, wifey,he said, his voice low and gentle.

He purposely kept his voice soft, calling her wifeyin that loving tone.

Xylia’s cheeks turned a little pink.

Seriously, this guy! He just can’t help flirting with me, no matter what time it is,’ she thought, half exasperated, half amused.

Once they were both ready, they headed downstairs.

The dining table was covered with all kinds of delicious food, a real feast waiting for them.

There was everything from Datonese classics to Western favorites.

The servants brought out the dishes in an impeccably orderly fashion, then left just as smoothly, everything flawless.

It was obvious they’d had professional training.

At the head of the table sat a woman who looked to be pushing forty, dressed in luxury designer brands and wearing perfectly polished, elegant makeup.

She radiated wealth and class with every gesture.

When Josie saw Xylia and Joshua coming downstairs, she got up right away to welcome them.

Hey, you made it! Come on, grab a seat and dig in,Josie said with a smile. I wasn’t sure if you guys were into Western food, so I had some Datonese food made just in casé. Mr. Garcia, you can’t eat anything after eight, so make sure you eat up now.

Joshua thanked Josie and sat down next to Xylia.

Once they were seated, Josie turned to introduce the woman at the head of the table.

This is my mom, Vivian Dunn, Josie said.

Then Josie gestured to Xylia and Joshua, introducing them to her mom.

Mom, this is my good friend Xylia Sadler and her husband, Joshua Garcia. They came to Manedom to get some medical help, so I thought I’d bring them here first,” Josie explained.

Vivian was a dignified and gracious woman. After Josie introduced them, she smiled warmly at Xylia and Joshua
