Chapter 386
When Josie heard Xylia’s words, her tears flowed uncontrollably, her emotions surging even stronger.
Her eyes red and puffy, she turned away, quickly brushing away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
After a long pause, she just managed a quiet “Okay” in response to Xylia.
oshua’s check–up took most of the day.
By the time it was over, Joshua looked pretty grim.
Xylia could tell he was clearly in a bad mood.
After Dr. Jace told them the results wouldn’t be ready until tomorrow, they decided to head home.
Once they were outside the hospital, Xylia finally asked Joshua why he was in such a bad mood.
oshua lowered his gaze, his eyes looking a bit conflicted.

Finally, he couldn’t hold it in anymore and said, “That doctor was just way too eager with me. It got on my nerves.”
That doctor was just way too eager with me. It got on my nerves.”
Xylia hadn’t expected that to be the reason, and she couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
osie, standing nearby, turned away, stifling her laughter so Joshua wouldn’t notice.
Ever since Dr. Jace realized Joshua was his savior, he’d been glued to Joshua’s side throughout the check–up, not only howering him with attention but also making a spectacle of his every move.
oshua kept getting strange looks from the staff and other patients, and his mood grew increasingly irritable.
de barely made it through until the check–up was finally over.
And now, even his own wife was making fun of him.
oshua just wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
Seeing Joshua’s face get even gloomier, Xylia’s laughter faded away.
Xylia cleared her throat awkwardly, and Josie stifled her laughter too.
‘Dr. Jace really means well. You did save his life, so of course he’s going to be extra attentive with you. He’ll probably bend over backwards to make sure your surgery goes perfectly. Honestly, this is just karma for being such a good guy–you should be happy about it,” Xylia teased.
Joshua just looked at Xylia, not saying a word.
His gaze grew more and more pitiful.
Xylia just couldn’t handle it when Joshua gave her that wounded puppy look. She rushed over, slipped her arm through his, and anxiously coaxed, “Once your surgery’s done, we’ll head back home, and you’ll never have to see Dr. Jace again. Just hang in there, okay?”

“Once your surgery’s done, we’ll head back home, and you’ll never have to see Dr. Jace again. Just hang in there, okay?”
She even hooked her pinky around his, giving it a gentle little shake.
She was both soothing him and sweetly coaxing him, just enough to shift his mood.
Once Joshua’s attention was diverted, he’d forget all about what happened earlier.
Just like that, Joshua reached out and took Xylia’s hand, their fingers lacing together. He let the whole thing go and didn’t mention it again.
Xylia gazed at him with soft eyes.
Bet you’re hungry after skipping breakfast. Let’s go get some food,” she said.
osie had planned to take them out for lunch since she was the host.
But then her phone rang out of the blue.
Kylia saw Josie’s face turn serious, and caught a flicker of hatred in her eyes when she picked up the call.
Then Josie glanced at Xylia apologetically.
Xylia, I’m really sorry, but something came up and I need to handle it. Do you want me to have someone take you guys out or lunch?”
Kylia flashed Josie a comforting smile.
It’s really fine, go handle your stuff. I used to live here for a while, so I’m pretty familiar with the area. We’ll be just fine,” she Issured her.
osie apologized once more before hurrying away.
Once Josie was gone, Xylia took Joshua’s hand, about to head out.
But after just a couple steps, she noticed Joshua hadn’t budged.
She turned back, shooting him a puzzled look.
oshua just blinked at her, totally clueless.
Xylia, you just said you used to live here for a while. Was I staying with you back then?” Joshua asked, a little uncertain.
Xylia’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked at him.
‘Did you remember something?” she asked hopefully.
“Not exactly. It’s just… a memory flashed in my mind–us, having hot pot together in a small living room,” Joshua admitted.
Xylia’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she smiled at Joshua, moved by his words.
“That’s right,” Xylia said gently, her voice tinged with nostalgia. “We really did live together back then, sharing hot pot in that cozy little living room.”
Joshua squeezed Xylia’s hand and asked softly, “Can you take me back to where we used to live together?”

“It’s not that I don’t want to,” she said gently, “but the whole neighborhood where we used to stay got turned into part of the university campus. There’s nothing left of us there anymore.”
Joshua’s face fell, the disappointment obvious.
Xylia reached out and softly cupped his cheek.
“Once your surgery’s done, those memories will come back to you. They’re always with us, deep in our hearts,” she said gently.
Joshua nodded.
Finally, Xylia took Joshua’s hand and led him out of the hospital.
That night, after Joshua had fallen asleep, Xylia quietly slipped downstairs to get some water.
But as she stepped into the living room, she was startled to see someone sitting there in the dark.
She jumped, but then realized it was Josie.
Kylia let out a sigh of relief and walked over.
Why are you sitting here all alone in the dark in the middle of the night? You freaked me out,” Xylia said, still feeling a bit haken.
Xylia walked over and flipped on the light for her, trying to make things less creepy.
The sudden brightness flooded the living room. Josie, who’d been in the dark for ages, shielded her eyes, then slowly dropped her hands as she adjusted to the glare, looking a little dazed.
osie didn’t say a word to Xylia.
she just sat there, even quieter than before, with a mess of bottles spread out in front of her.
The whole place reeked of booze.
Sylia’s brows furrowed as she looked at Josie. “Josie, what’s going on?”
Seriously, what happened?”
Xylia couldn’t shake the feeling it was all tied to that phone call Josie got earlier–and whatever was eating at her had to be about that design contest.
So Xylia pressed, “Josie, you’re going to tell me about the competition now, right?”
Josie glanced at Xylia, her eyes red and looking lost and vulnerable.
