Billionaire's Match (by Tangy Candy) novel Chapter 1208

Yet, the light didn't seem to reach all of Charlotte's small figure. An invisible, crushing grief seemed to swallow her whole like a wild beast.

But in this world, no matter how unbearable the pain, there was no escaping it. Everyone had to face it alone.

The moment Ethan stepped out of the room, a tear somehow slid down to the corner of his mouth.

He used to toy with love, just to ease his own bitterness. But his reckless youth had finally taught him that love was the one bitterness he should never have touched.

Charlotte sat quietly. The phone lit up as it powered on, and the lock screen showed a photo of the two of them.

She had snapped it on his phone on a whim, back when she and Noah had just gotten together.

In the photo, Noah wore a streetwear T-shirt and jeans she had picked out for him herself. Stripped of his killer's aura, he was just a young man.

Noah's phone was almost bare. It had nothing but a few game apps.

He didn't keep in touch with anyone. Only one number was saved on his phone, hers, and the contact name read "Wife."

When Charlotte had looked at his phone before, he had still dutifully saved her under her real name. She had no idea when he had changed it.

Her heart finally seemed to catch up. The pain began to set in, but it came dull and heavy, like being carved by a blunt knife.

She opened the photo album on Noah's phone. Every single picture was from their everyday life together: at the supermarket, in the garden downstairs, eating at the mall, out on their dates...

Noah always took lots of pictures of food. Whenever she wasn't home, he would cook a meal and send her a photo, urging her to come home early.

She still remembered one night when she had worked late. When she got home, Noah had fallen asleep slumped over the dining table, with telltale crumbs at the corner of his mouth from sneaking a bite.

She had snapped a picture of him sleeping. When he found out later, he complained that he looked hideous and insisted on deleting it. Yet here it was, still safe and sound in his album.

"You never meant a word of it..."

Charlotte couldn't help but smile. But the smile lasted only a second before her tears dropped onto the screen.

Every photo she had taken back then was so casual, so careless that she could hardly find a single one that captured Noah perfectly.

Because back then, they had both believed there would be a future.
