Billionaire’s Regret After Losing Her (Aurelia) novel Chapter 156

Chapter 156 Give the Baby Back

“Aurelia!” Dominic’s voice turned colder, and the words came out through gritted teeth.

Aurelia opened her eyes and looked at him. “Dominic…” She said his name and then stopped, meeting his dark, dangerous gaze.

She’d seen that look before, but back then, he’d reserved it for his enemies. Now, he was looking at her that way.

A cold, bitter smile curved Aurelia’s lips. “You’ve never really trusted me, have you?”

Dominic said nothing.

“When you were chasing me, you believed everything I said. But ever since I married you…” She trailed off and shrugged, then shook her head. “Ever since we got married, whenever something involves the Hawthorne family, you never believe me.”

Between the Hawthorne family and her, he always chose to believe them.

off, but you believed them. You believed I wasn’t pregnant and I didn’t have a miscarriage.”

The word “miscarriage” hit Dominic hard, and for a moment, he couldn’t breathe.

“Now Lauren’s baby is missing, and somehow, you’ve decided it was me.” Aurelia’s voice turned sarcastic.

Whenever something bad happened, all the Hawthornes had to do was blame her and he believed them. He wouldn’t even let her defend herself. He just believed them, every single time.

“The person who took the baby was German,” Dominic said.

Aurelia went quiet.

Dominic spat out the words “a German” like they were poison, as if that alone proved Aurelia’s guilt.

Aurelia let out a cold laugh. “A German? Just because there was a German working for me before? Did you even check if it was the same person?”

Dominic fell silent.

Was it? No, the video showed a German taking the baby, but it wasn’t the same German who’d worked for Aurelia

before. Still, why would it be a German at all? Wasn’t that too much of a coincidence?

Dominic took another drag from his cigarette. “If the baby’s not back at the hospital by sunrise, I’m turning everything over to the police.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? You’re personally going to send me to prison?”

Hearing the threat in his voice about involving the police made Aurelia’s blood boil. A threat, that was what this was. He was trying to force her to hand over a baby she

didn’t even have.

Aurelia smiled bitterly. “If I’d taken the baby, you know exactly what I’d use her for, don’t you?”

A divorce. That was what Aurelia wanted. If she’d actually taken the baby, her first move would’ve been to use the child to force him into signing divorce papers.

But she hadn’t done that.

Looking at the determination in her eyes, Dominic felt his certainty waver for a moment. But then he remembered that Aurelia’s miscarriage had been real. If she blamed Lauren for that, taking revenge wouldn’t be out of the question.

Aurelia stared at him and spoke each word clearly. “Have I used the baby to threaten you?”

Dominic stayed silent.

“No, I haven’t. So what would I even do with Lauren’s baby? Raise it?” Aurelia continued. “I’m not that generous. I wouldn’t raise Lauren’s child. Hell, I’d rather adopt a dog than take care of her kid.”

The level of disgust she felt for Lauren ran so deep that even though the baby was innocent, Aurelia couldn’t stand the thought of it.

When Dominic heard her say she’d rather have a dog than Lauren’s baby, his heart lurched. If she refused to raise Lauren’s child, then Dominic knew exactly what she’d do once she got her hands on the baby.

Dominic stepped forward and grabbed her shoulders, and their eves locked. “That’s not just Lauren’s baby. That’s

also my brother Adrian’s child.”

“So what? I hate them both. They make me sick.”

Just because Adrian was part of the equation didn’t mean she’d suddenly change how she felt about the baby.

“Then give the baby back and leave them alone!” Dominic’s anger exploded.

In that instant, Aurelia went completely still. She looked at Dominic, who’d completely lost his rationality, like he was an idiot.

What was the point of explaining anything? She’d learned months ago that trying to reason with him was useless. And yet here she was, instinctively trying to analyze the situation with the baby.

What good did it do? He wouldn’t listen to a word she said. He’d already decided she’d taken the child, so what was the point of any of this?

When she didn’t respond, Dominic tightened his grip on her shoulders. “You think she hurt you before but you have no proof, right? Well?”

Aurelia’s face went blank. Right, no proof. So that made her the evil one, falsely accusing Lauren.

“When you don’t have evidence, even if you hate her, you shouldn’t drag an innocent baby into it,” Dominic said.

Dominic was trying every angle he could think of. First he’d threatened her with the police, and now he was softening his tone.

Aurelia let out a cold laugh. “You don’t have any proof I took the baby, but here you are, playing both good cop and bad.”

“The baby was taken by a German!” Dominic’s voice hardened, as if that detail alone was all the proof he

needed.

“Am I German?” Aurelia shot back.

“Or are you talking about the German guy who works for me?”

Still, no response from him. The air grew tense.

Augelia jerked her shoulder and shook his hand off, “I§.26

that right? Huh?”

Was it? No, it wasn’t. The person in the footage was German, but it wasn’t the German man who worked for Aurelia. Or was it? He couldn’t be sure.

“The person in the footage was wearing a baseball cap. We could only tell they were German.”

“So you’re not even sure if it’s my guy? Then why the hell are you interrogating me?” Aurelia demanded.

“Who else would it be?” Dominic countered.

Listen to him. Just listen to what he was saying. Who else would it be? So now anything that happened to Lauren was automatically her fault?

Aurelia felt exhausted and didn’t want to deal with this anymore. She turned away and dropped onto the sofa, refusing to say another word.

Dominic saw her go silent, and panic set in. “You want a divorce, right?”

At those words, Aurelia’s head snapped up, and she stared at Dominic.
