Chapter 21 Don’t Mention Apologies Again!
Lauren’s hospital room had been crowded all day.
She’d just had twins–a boy and a girl–for the Hawthorne family, and even Dominic’s grandmother, Bianca Hawthorne, and his dad, Darren Hawthorne, had come to see her in person.
By the time Eleanor walked in, Darren and Bianca were already
gone.
Only Rachel, Dominic’s third sister, and Lydia, his fourth sister, stayed behind. Everyone in the Hawthorne family thought Lauren was dealing with depression–and that she was confusing Dominic with Adrian.
As Eleanor stepped into the room, she heard Lydia comforting Lauren, holding her hand.
“Lauren, don’t worry. Adrian only cares about you. He’s just tied up with work stuff. He’s not going anywhere.”
“R–Really?” Lauren whispered, her voice shaky.
Lydia gave a reassuring nod. “Of course. The only thing you need to focus on is getting better.”
Lauren’s eyes welled up again. “But why is Aurelia treating1me5

like this? What did I do wrong? Why is she doing this to me?”
The moment Aurelia’s name came up, the room went quiet. Everyone’s faces fell. Ever since Aurelia married into the Hawthorne family, Bianca had made it clear she didn’t like her, and that attitude had spread to everyone else.
Lydia squeezed Lauren’s hand, her voice tight. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure she apologizes publicly, you’ll see.”
How dare she? After living off us for three years, this is how she repays us?!
She’d always been close to Lauren, and seeing those reports earlier today made her want to tear Aurelia apart.
Everyone stayed in the room, chatting and comforting Lauren until she finally calmed down.
Once Lauren fell asleep, Lydia stepped outside with Eleanor.
“Mom, Grandma saw Lauren’s face, and she’s livid. She says that woman can’t stay in the family anymore.”
That woman–Aurelia.
Eleanor’s face tightened at the mention of her name.
Before Eleanor could respond, Lydia added, “Grandma wants 2/7
you to handle this cleanly.”

Bianca had always despised Aurelia, but seeing, Lauren’s bruises today had only intensified her fury,
Eleanor said nothing, but her jaw tightened in frustration.
Hearing, “handle this cleanly” only made her scowl deeper.
“How am I supposed to handle anything cleanly when Dominic’s standing by her?” she muttered bitterly. “If we could’ve done something about Aurelia, she never would’ve gotten into our family in the first place.”
But Aurelia had Dominic wrapped around her finger, and the whole family was too scared to oppose him.
“No matter what, she still needs to publicly apologize to Lauren,” Lydia insisted, her voice firm. “Otherwise, how will the whole city of New York see Lauren?”
Eleanor’s eyes flashed with anger. “Don’t mention apologies again!” she snapped, her voice sharp.
The mere thought of it brought back memories of Aurelia’s wild outbursts–the way she’d beaten Lauren in a fit of madness. The woman was a complete lunatic.
After leaving the hospital, Dominic headed straight back to the 3/7

office.
While waiting at a red light, Jason suddenly let out a soft sound of surprise.
Dominic, who’d been resting with his eyes closed, opened them, his gaze sharp and intense.
“What?”
“That looks like Mrs. Hawthorne.” Jason was staring at something up ahead.
Dominic followed his gaze. Even though he could only see her from behind, he recognized Aurelia immediately.
But the guy with her? That tall, broad figure next to her, with the golden hair…
Who’s that?
Dominic reached for the car door, but a horn blared behind them, and cars kept rushing by in the next lane.
“Mr. Hawthorne, you can’t get out here,”
“Then pull over up ahead.”
Jason nodded, his grip tightening on the wheel. “Yes, sir.” 4/7

He shifted gears and made a quick turn, finding a parking spot just past the intersection.
But when Dominic looked back, Aurelia had already vanished.
He scanned the area, frowning. “Why would she be here?”
na
This isn’t some mall or fashion plaza. What’s she doing in a biotech district?
“This area’s mostly biotech research,” Jason said.
“Biotech?”
“Yeah, two companies focus on cosmetic ingredients.”
But that didn’t make sense.
These weren’t places you go to buy cosmetics–what was she doing here?
“There’s another one nearby… Mr. Fletcher’s company,” Jason added, his voice cautious.
Dominic went silent.
The air in the car grew heavier.
Fletcher’s company.

And she’d been with that guy. So she’s here to see… Grant?
Dominic lit a cigarette, the sharp flick of the lighter breaking the quiet.
Jason hesitated, then spoke carefully, “Should we leave, or…?”
“Just wait,” Dominic muttered, his voice low.

Aurelia walked straight into Vertex Biotech, with Gareth following respectfully behind her.
“I had no idea you owned so many businesses in New York. Does Mr. Hawthorne know?” Gareth asked, his voice laced with curiosity.
“He knows what?” Aurelia replied, her focus sharp and distant.
All her attention was locked on Lauren.
She quickly changed into a white sterile suit.
The lab had called earlier, saying they’d made a breakthrough on a project they’d been working on for three years.
“This is the biggest one,” Aurelia said, her tone filled with
pride. 5/7

Girls loved beauty, and Aurelia was no exception. She’d started Vertex Biotech four years ago.
The jewelry design studios and art galleries had begun as hobbies–small passions that had gradually grown into successful businesses.
But Vertex Biotech was different. This was the venture she’d always been serious about, the one she had fully invested in.
