Chapter 252 Earn the Dinner

Eleanor and the others couldn’t stand it anymore. Honestly, after everything Aurelia had pulled today, even Dominic was reaching his limit.
He picked up his phone and called Lucas.
Unlike Eleanor and Lydia’s so-called friends, Dominic’s friends actually had his back. Lucas and Ethan-they’d show up with just one call, no questions asked.
The phone barely rang twice before Lucas picked up.
“Dominic.”
“Can you come to the Hawthorne Manor? Actually, wait-come tomorrow morning. First thing.”
“What for?” Lucas asked.
“That thing we talked about before.” Dominic pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on.
Over the years, Aurelia and Lucas had gotten along pretty well, so if anyone could get through to her, it would be him. His other friends couldn’t really step in, but Lucas? She might actually listen to Lucas.
On the other end, Lucas put two and two together-Dominiq:17

previous conversation. He knew exactly what this was about.
He swallowed hard. “You mean… the thing about convincing Aurelia to get a divorce? Look, I don’t know if-”
“Her attitude right now is giving everyone a headache,” Dominic cut him off before he could finish.
“Dominic, she’s not going to listen to me,” Lucas said.
“Just try,” Dominic said.
Over the past two days, the entire Hawthorne family had been in complete chaos, and everyone was exhausted from the
ordeal.
Dominic was getting seriously fed up with all of it.
He’d never wanted a divorce as severely as he did right now.
Before, no matter how much Aurelia caused trouble, he’d refused to even consider it, and he didn’t want to leave her.
But if things kept going like this, she was going to drive everyone insane.
Dominic couldn’t take it anymore.

Now he wanted out even more desperately than Aurelia had when she’d been the one asking for a divorce.
Lucas heard the frustration in Dominic’s voice and asked cautiously, “Is it really that bad?”
From what Lucas knew, Aurelia had always been pretty kindhearted, so he couldn’t imagine things getting that out of hand.
Sure, she’d burned down a bunch of properties, but no one had actually died yet, right?
“I think you should just talk to Aurelia and smooth things over,” Lucas suggested. “You know she’s always been a good woman.”
Dominic was silent.
Lucas could’ve said anything else, and Dominic might’ve kept his cool, but the word “good woman” made him want to lose it.
“She burned down everything the Hawthorne family owns except the manor and you’re calling her kindhearted?” Dominic ground out through clenched teeth.
Aurelia had even burned down the house in Westchester
County.

Westchester County, Oakridge Estate-one was a place he’d specifically designed for her, and the other was supposed to be their wedding home. She’d burned them both to the ground, leaving nothing but ashes.
And now Lucas was calling her good woman? He’d clearly been wrong about her from the start.
Aurelia was vicious down to her bones. How could someone
like that have a single ounce of kindness in her?
Lucas stayed silent for a moment. When he heard Dominic say that, he didn’t know how to respond. “Well, if you put it that way, she’s hell-bent on causing chaos, so I don’t think me talking to her is going to do much good, right?”
Lucas figured you just couldn’t push a calm person too far.
Before all this, Aurelia had really been a gentle woman, hadn’t
she?
But they’d pushed her to her limit, and this was the result.
People like her had a stubborn streak that most couldn’t even imagine.
If she was truly determined to go after the Hawthorne family, then his trying to talk sense into her would probably just blow
up in his face.

Dominic’s voice was firm. “Just talk to her properly.”
Lucas didn’t say anything at first. Talk properly? Had Dominic talked to her properly? If even Dominic couldn’t get through to her, then who could?
Lucas let out a breath. “Fine, I’ll give it a shot tomorrow.”
After all, Dominic had asked him directly, and if Lucas refused, it would make him look like a terrible friend.
After hanging up Lucas’ phone call, Dominic pinched his throbbing temples. He stood up without saying a word, heading straight upstairs.
There was nothing he could do about Aurelia right now
anyway.
Even if he wanted to reassure Eleanor and Lydia with actual actions, his hands were completely tied.
Once Dominic left and only Eleanor and Lydia remained, Lydia turned to Eleanor with tears pooling in her eyes. “We were almost done with the stairs,” she said, her voice breaking. “We could’ve earned dinner tonight.”
But then Dominic had kicked over their water bucket.
Eleanor closed her eyes and exhaled slowly. “Then we’ll do it 5/6 again.”

She’d been so determined not to back down before, but now she’d seen Dominic himself get beaten down in front of Aurelia, powerless to fight back.
The message was crystal clear-nobody could touch Aurelia
right now, not unless they could somehow take down whoever was backing her up.
“Listen to Lauren,” Eleanor said firmly. “Go find Grant tomorrow.”
Lydia nodded quickly. “Yeah, I will.”
She had to go to Grant.
Whatever plans they came up with next, as long as Grant stood behind Aurelia, nothing they tried would work out the way they wanted.
So she had to find a way to win Grant over, no matter what it took.
