Chapter 256 We Need to Talk

Aurelia’s voice turned sharp. “What, so your life matters but mine doesn’t?”

“Enough!” Eleanor finally snapped, and her voice cracked through the room. She knew the truth now-Aurelia had figured it out.

She knew everything.

And yet Aurelia was going to make Dominic eat this poisoned soup, and she wanted all of them to eat it too.

Eleanor’s rage exploded, and she swept her arm across the table. Plates and bowls crashed to the floor with a deafening clatter.

The dining room went dead silent, and the tension felt thick enough to choke on.

Eleanor’s hand shook as she pointed at Aurelia. “You evil bitch. You’re absolutely vicious.”

Aurelia slammed her bowl down on the table so hard it made everyone jump. The bowl spun across the surface, and the soup splashed all over Lydia.

Lydia shrieked. “Ah!”

Aurelia’s eyes went cold as she stared Eleanor down. “I’m the evil one? You’re the one who put poison in the soup.”

Eleanor’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.

Dominic said nothing.

Lydia and Lauren just sat there, stunned.

Aurelia crossed her arms and turned to look at Dominic. “So

tell me-am I the evil one here?”

This was exactly how the Hawthorne family operated. They did something horrible, and when you called them out on it, they turned it around and blamed you instead.

Just like right now-Eleanor was the one who poisoned the soup, but here she was calling Aurelia a vicious bitch.

Dominic’s face turned dark, and he glanced at Eleanor before turning to Aurelia.

“Who’s the evil?” Aurelia’s tone sharpened.

Eleanor’s heart pounded in her chest. “If you hadn’t pushed me, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. This is all because of you, and you’re the one who should get out of this house.”

Eleanor was losing her mind.

The people Aurelia brought were way too good at their job, because Eleanor had gone to the greenhouse in complete darkness last night.

But somehow Aurelia knew everything.

Eleanor suddenly realized that Aurelia wasn’t just scary, she was the kind of terrifying that made your skin crawl when you really thought about it.

“What did I push you to do?” Aurelia asked. “I just took your teachings to heart, and now as the lady of the Hawthorne family, I’m simply following the same standards you set

before.”

Eleanor opened her mouth, but no words came out.

Her face darkened, and she glared at Aurelia, completely unable to say anything back.

Dominic shot to his feet. “We need to talk,” he said, his voice ice-cold as he stared down at Aurelia.

“Your mother poisoned me and you want to talk to me?” Aurelia fired back. “Talk about what?”

Every single word that came out of Aurelia’s mouth cut like a knife.

Bominic’s breathing grew heavier and more rapid.

Aurelia shot back, “If you want to talk, go talk to your mother. She’s the one who made those rules in the first place, and now I’m the bad guy for enforcing them? You really think that’s funny?”

Dominic went silent. Funny? She thought all of this was some kind of joke?

Eleanor’s face turned ashen as she listened.

Dominic grabbed Aurelia’s wrist and started pulling her toward the stairs.

“Let go of me,” Aurelia said sharply.

“We need to talk,” Dominic said through gritted teeth.

“We can talk right here,” Aurelia replied, pulling against his grip.

Talk alone? No. She’d given him that chance before, plenty of

times.

Every time he came back from the Hawthorne Manor because of Lauren, every time he returned to Oakridge Estate, she’d tried to talk to him privately.

And what did he say to her back then?

“I’m tired.”

That was what she got when she wanted to talk. That was his answer, over and over again.

How many chances had she given him? Too many to count.

Well, she wasn’t giving him any more.

Dominic looked down at her, silent, but his eyes grew colder by the second.

Aurelia met his gaze. “I gave you countless chances to talk to me privately before, and what did you do with them?”

He’d brushed her off or avoided her completely. Or maybe he’d just thought she didn’t deserve to ask for anything more.

Because talking privately meant she’d have demands, and that was exactly why he’d refused back then.

So now that he wanted to make demands, she obviously wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction.

“Go back to your rooms.” Dominic bit out the words and shot a sharp look at Eleanor and the other two.

Eleanor felt a chill run through her entire body, and Lydia

didn’t dare say a word under Dominic’s icy stare. She quickly 5/7

Lauren looked at Dominic with tears in her eyes, but he wasn’t even looking at her anymore.

They all left, but Aurelia’s people were still there.

Dominic’s eyes swept over them.

But without Aurelia’s orders, these men didn’t give a damn about his threatening glare.

The disrespect hit him like a punch to the chest.

He walked over and dropped into the chair across from Aurelia, then yanked out a cigarette and lit it with sharp, agitated movements.

“Why?” His voice was cold and demanding. “Just tell me why you’re doing this.”

After the past two days, even an idiot could see it-Aurelia was deliberately getting revenge.

Revenge. Yes, that was exactly what this was,

“Did what they did to you before really make you hate them that much?” Dominic asked.

It hadn’t been like this before. Back when she’d been mistreated at the Hawthorne Manor, she never said anything 6/7

about it, did she?

She still went back like nothing happened.

She didn’t hate them then, so why did she hate them now?

“Hate?” Aurelia let out a cold laugh.

Speaking of hate, she had to think about her twisted fate with Dominic. What a cursed relationship this was.

It was truly cursed.

Now, Aurelia believed more than ever that her entry into the Hawthorne family was her mother’s resentment reaching down

from heaven.
