Chapter 255 Your Mom Did It
Aurelia had just scooped up a spoonful when something seemed to occur to her, and she set the spoon back down.

That simple movement-picking it up, putting it down-made Eleanor’s heart claw at her chest like a trapped cat.
Eleanor screamed internally.
Eat it!
Once she ate it, everything would be so much easier for all of
them.
Aurelia turned to look at Eleanor and asked, “Why aren’t you coming over to eat?”
“I—” Eleanor froze when Aurelia called her directly.
Her anger flared up instantly. What was this bitch doing, playing the filial woman now?
Eleanor didn’t care about the show. She just wanted Aurelia to eat the damn food and be done with it.
Under Aurelia’s smiling gaze, Eleanor forced herself to walk slowly toward the dining table, her movements stiff and deliberate.

She had no idea what had gotten into Aurelia today or why she’d suddenly decided to play nice, but it was too little, too late. Did Aurelia really think a change of heart now would make any difference after everything she’d done the past few days?
Eleanor wasn’t letting her off the hook-not this time, and not
ever.
If Aurelia stayed alive, she’d keep leeching money from the Hawthorne family, and after she’d dared to demand the entire Hawthorne Group? Eleanor would never forgive that.
People like her were nothing but trouble, and the sooner she was gone, the better.
So no, Eleanor wouldn’t feel guilty about this. If Aurelia wanted someone to blame, she should blame herself for pushing them too far and revealing her true colors over the past two days.
Keeping someone like Aurelia around was a ticking time bomb for the Hawthorne family, and Eleanor refused to let that threat linger.
The moment Eleanor sat down, Lydia picked up her bowl, and Lauren did the same. They were starving, and the sight of all that food spread across the table made their mouths water- honestly, it still didn’t feel like enough. 2/7

Eleanor called out sharply, “Lydia.”
Just as Lydia was about to take a sip of soup, Eleanor’s voice stopped her cold.
Lydia paused mid-motion and looked up at her mother with confusion. “What’s wrong, Mom?”
Eleanor didn’t answer right away and just gave Lydia a pointed look.
Lydia frowned, not understanding what her mother wanted. “Well, hurry up and eat too.”
Aurelia had finally decided to let them eat, and Lydia wasn’t about to waste this opportunity. Who knew if Aurelia would change her mind by lunch and starve them again?
She’d had enough of this torture, and she wasn’t going to suffer through it for another second if she could help it.
Eleanor glanced at Aurelia, who hadn’t touched her food, and panic started to set in.
Lauren turned to Eleanor and said, “Yeah, Mom, you should
eat too.”
Lydia and Lauren were the same now-they’d been hungry for so long so long that they just wanted to devour everything in sight.

Eleanor was about to lose her mind with these two idiots who only cared about stuffing their faces.
Especially Aurelia-what the hell was she waiting for? Just eat already.
Aurelia watched Eleanor’s performance with amusement and said, “It’s going to get cold if we don’t eat soon.”
“Right, right, it’ll get cold. You should eat now,” Eleanor said quickly.
“Go on, eat,” Eleanor kept urging.
Lydia reached for her bowl again, but Eleanor suddenly pinched her thigh hard.
“Ah!” Lydia yelped and glared at Eleanor. “Mom, what the
hell?”
“Nothing,” Eleanor snapped. “Aurelia hasn’t eaten yet. Why are you in such a hurry?”
“We can all eat together,” Lydia said.
The moment those words left her mouth, Eleanor pinched her again, even harder this time, and Lydia finally realized something was off.

Then she followed Eleanor’s lead and looked at Aurelia with a
strained smile. “Right, Aurelia, you go first,” she said, her tone suddenly respectful.
Lauren had always been smart, so when she noticed how weird Eleanor and Lydia were acting, she stopped eating too and set down her spoon.
Aurelia smiled slightly and slowly scooped up a spoonful of food.
Eleanor and Lydia both held their breath, thinking Aurelia was finally about to eat, but then she turned away.
“You eat,” Aurelia said.
She held the spoon up to Dominic’s lips and added, “Your mother washed these vegetables herself early this morning. It was a lot of work.”
Eleanor, Lydia, and Lauren watched in silence.
When they saw Aurelia lift the spoon toward Dominic’s mouth, Eleanor’s heart leapt into her throat.
Dominic glanced at Aurelia and then down at the spoonful of soup hovering near his lips.
Steam was still rising from it. 5/7

He didn’t open his mouth.
When Aurelia saw him hesitate, her smile deepened. “What’s wrong?”
Dominic stared at the soup and then back at Aurelia.
Aurelia tilted her head. “Your mother prepared all of this herself, and I’ve been sitting right here since I came downstairs. Everything happened under her watchful eye.”
She added, “Even if you don’t trust me, you trust your own mother, don’t you?”
The words “your own mother” rolled off her tongue with particular softness.
But that gentle coaxing only made Eleanor’s chest tighten even
more.
Her face was losing color fast, and Dominic noticed.
He glanced in Eleanor’s direction.
Eleanor caught his eye and subtly shook her head-don’t eat it –and the moment Dominic saw that warning, his expression
shifted.
He turned back to Aurelia and met her smiling gaze, and in 6/7

that instant, he was almost certain she knew everything.
Yet knowing everything, she was still urging him to eat.
Dominic’s voice came out low. “You’re sure you want me to eat this?”
“Your mother got up at five this morning just to prepare it. Don’t waste all her hard work.” As Aurelia spoke, something cold flickered in her eyes.
Dominic stared at her in silence.
Aurelia’s smile didn’t waver. “Open up.”
