Chapter 279 Ask Your Mom
Right now, Dominic was desperate to figure out who at Smith Group he’d pissed off badly enough to come after him like this.
Because whoever it was had gone for the throat, and they hadn’t held back.
They’d destroyed every single one of Hawthorne Group’s overseas projects, and the damage was devastating.
Grant spoke up, “Instead of asking me who wants Hawthorne Group dead, why don’t you go home and ask your mother?”
“My mother? What the hell does that mean?” Dominic stared at him, completely blindsided.
Grant’s eyes were cold. “Ask her how many people she helped your father kill back in the day.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Dominic’s voice went
hard.
He knew Eleanor had been out of control these past few years, and it gave him headaches constantly, but murder? His mother wasn’t a killer.
What the hell did Grant mean by “how many people”?

Grant watched him bristle at any insult to the Hawthorne family, and a low laugh escaped his throat.
“That’s the attitude. Keep that exact attitude, and I promise you, it won’t be long before Hawthorne Group is completely-”
He paused, meeting Dominic’s icy glare head-on, and finished slowly, “-destroyed.”
Any normal person would’ve tried to verify what Grant just said.
But Dominic’s attitude was disappointing, and sometimes it was infuriating beyond words.
Dominic’s breathing was uneven.
Grant lost his patience and turned to leave, but Dominic grabbed his arm. “Does this have anything to do with you?”
He still wasn’t sure if Smith Group’s attack on him was
connected to Grant.
That’s why he came here today, and he needed to figure this
out.
Grant looked at him and said, “What do you think?”
Dominic didn’t answer, so he asked again, “Does this have 2/6

anything to do with your feelings for Aurelia?”
He knew these questions sounded stupid, but he had to ask them anyway.
Too much had happened lately, and Aurelia suddenly exploded while Grant protected her.
Right after that, Smith Group came after him. “Or is Smith Group going after Hawthorne Group because of Aurelia?”
Right then, Dominic bypassed Grant entirely and asked Aurelia directly about her connection to Smith Group.
He was thinking about what Eleanor had told Lydia-that Aurelia had been on the phone with some German man.
And when Lydia went and told Grant about it, he nearly killed
her for it.
So maybe this wasn’t about Grant and Aurelia’s relationship at all.
Maybe Aurelia herself had ties to someone in Germany, or she’d gotten involved with someone from the Smith Group directly.
If that was the case, he’d have to see her in a whole new light.

Grant said, “Instead of asking me these questions, why don’t you go ask your mother how many people she’s killed.”
Dominic fell silent.
Grant shook off his hand and got straight into the car.
Dominic stood there, his entire body going cold.
Eleanor had killed people?
No, she wouldn’t just kill people randomly. She’d been arrogant over the years, sure.
She’d always been proud, but if someone said she’d actually killed people, Dominic couldn’t bring himself to believe it.

Dominic had no idea how he made it back to the car.
Grant’s words kept circling in his head-“Ask your mother how many people she’s killed”. So Aurelia came back to the Hawthorne family because of Eleanor?
He lit one cigarette after another, and finally grabbed his phone to call Lucas. The line connected almost immediately.
“Dominic.”

“Did Aurelia say anything to you?”
Grant hadn’t spelled it out, but his warning was clear enough.
From what Dominic could tell, Lucas and Aurelia had stayed close over the years.
If Grant knew something, Lucas had to know something too.
The difference was simple-Grant wouldn’t tell him, but Lucas would.
“Uh, not really. Why?” Lucas said.
The question caught Lucas off guard, and he stumbled over his
response.
Once he processed what Dominic was asking, his answer came out awkward and uncertain. He sounded guilty, as if he were the one sabotaging Hawthorne Group.
Dominic frowned at Lucas’ shaky tone. “You’re hiding something from me.”
“No.” Lucas didn’t hesitate this time. His voice was firm and steady.
Lucas didn’t dare say the wrong thing. The Smith Group princess considered him a friend, so he was a friend. 5/6

But if he pissed her off and she decided they weren’t friends anymore, he’d be the one screwed.
Lucas knew precisely where he stood with Aurelia, and he kept it that way.
But Dominic wouldn’t let this go, and it was really putting him in an impossible position.
Lucas cleared his throat and tried to deflect. “So did you find anything or what?” he asked carefully.
Dominic pressed him again. “She really didn’t say anything to you?”
Lucas went silent.
Was he seriously still asking? Could a guy catch a break here?
“Did she tell you anything about her connection to Smith Group?” Dominic asked.
