“Ten isn’t enough? Then twenty. Thirty. Fifty. Is that enough? If not, I can add a hundred. A thousand.”
Dominic’s voice was ice–cold.
She wanted to make a scene? Fine. He’d throw an entire army
at her drama.
“You—” Eleanor snapped.
“You want me to personally watch her?” Dominic cut in sharply. “I’m just her brother–in–law!”
Eleanor fell silent.
“I’m not a therapist,” Dominic continued. “And I can’t treat depression.”
His anger was barely contained, boiling just beneath the surface.
All he could see was Aurelia–standing alone in the rain, clutching that umbrella.
“But she only calms down when she sees your face,” Eleanor said desperately.

worked better than any treatment.
“So what?” Dominic shot back. “I’m supposed to let her stare at me all the time? Until when?”
The low, dangerous edge in his voice made Eleanor’s whole body stiffen. Still, she forced herself to continue.
“At least until the babies are older. Until the therapists can help her through this.”
“You saw what happened tonight,” she said urgently. “When she loses control, she doesn’t care whether she lives or dies.”
“Then let her die.”
The words were brutal. Completely heartless.
“If she doesn’t want to live, who’s supposed to watch over her forever?”
Eleanor’s heart jolted. “How can you say that? The babies are Adrian’s! How can you be so cruel?”
That was the final straw.
“Adrian’s babies?” Dominic sneered. “Fine. I’ll hire a hundred
nannies to take care of them. That’s a hundred times better
than Lauren, isn’t it?”

What good was a mother who was constantly suicidal to her children anyway?
Eleanor trembled with rage. “Are you seriously trying to drive her to kill herself?”
The elevator doors slid open.
Dominic stepped inside, fury radiating off him.
Eleanor stood frozen outside, seething–utterly powerless to stop him.

After leaving the hospital, Dominic kept calling Aurelia’s phone.
No answer.
He switched to Jason instead.
Jason picked up immediately. “Sir.”
“Did she go back to Evergreen Residences?”
Dominic was already driving toward Elysian Bridge, even though he knew she wouldn’t be there waiting for him.

mind–Aurelia standing alone in the rain, gripping that umbrella.
“Right after you left Elysian Bridge,” Jason reported, “Mrs. Hawthorne got into Mr. Fletcher’s car.”
Dominic’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. He slammed his fist against it.
Damn it!
When did they get so close?
“Where is she now?”
“Mr. Fletcher took her straight to Evergreen Residences.”
Dominic didn’t hesitate. He immediately changed direction and headed straight there.

Back at the hospital, just as Dominic had promised, more than a dozen bodyguards arrived to lock the place down.
Two female guards were stationed directly inside Lauren’s
room.
Now, even if Lauren wanted to hurt herself, she couldn’t–let 4/7
alone jump out a window.

The moment Lauren saw the guards, she started screaming Adrian’s name again.
Lydia exploded. “Dominic sent all these people–is he trying to drive Lauren completely insane?”
Aurelia was perfectly fine, so why was he acting like this?
Lauren had just given birth. She should’ve been the priority.
And thinking about the apology message she’d been forced to send to Aurelia only made Lydia angrier.
Eleanor was too furious to even speak.
That damn Aurelia–worthless, poor trash… and yet somehow terrifyingly good at wrapping men around her finger.

Knowing that Grant had taken Aurelia to Evergreen
Residences, Dominic rushed over–only to find she wasn’t
there.
He immediately called Grant.
Grant clearly didn’t want to deal with him. It took two tries before he finally picked up.

“It’s the middle of the night,” Grant said coolly. “Lauren just had an episode, and now you’re having one too?”
Dominic felt like his head was about to explode.
Being called out like this by his closest friend only pushed his
emotions further out of control.
He didn’t want to argue. “Where’s Aurelia?”
“She’s your wife,” Grant replied flatly. “Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that?”
Dominic’s breath caught.
His wife. And yet every time she disappeared, he had no idea where to find her.
He always had to ask others–because somehow, they could reach her more easily than he could.
Dominic forced his anger down. “Jason said you picked her up from Elysian Bridge.”
Grant’s tone turned colder. “And why do you think I had to pick her up?”
་་
…
The silence on the line was sharp as a blade.
