Chapter 33 How Often?
Dominic closed his eyes.
Before he could say anything, Grant’s mocking laugh came through the phone.
“When did it get this bad?” Grant said coolly. “You don’t even know where your own wife goes when she’s upset anymore— and you have to call other people to find her?”
He paused, then added pointedly, “When you carried Lauren down from that rooftop, you looked pretty experienced at taking care of a woman.”
“Grant!” Dominic snapped.
In that instant, his anger finally exploded.
The only response was the dial tone–Grant had already hung
Standing outside Evergreen Residences, Dominic was so furious he nearly smashed his phone.
After forcing himself to rein it in, he called Jason. “Find out where Grant’s hiding her.”
By now, Dominic was sure Grant had purposely hidden Aurelia
away.

And for Grant to mock him about not knowing where she went when she was upset? How was he supposed to know–if she was being kept from him?
After searching everywhere, Jason finally reported back. “I
can’t find where Mr. Fletcher has hidden Mrs. Hawthorne.”
Dominic’s jaw tightened.
“But I did find something else.”
“What is it?”
Was it possible she and Grant had been meeting in secret all
this time?
“Mrs. Hawthorne’s been going to Crestview Plaza pretty often for the last six months.”
Crestview Plaza… Grant’s biotech company is located there!
“You mean she…”
Dominic didn’t finish the sentence, but his mind was already
racing.
Jason voiced the thought forming in his head. “Could Mrs. Hawthorne be working at Mr. Fletcher’s research company?”

“Biotech research? What kind of job could she even do?” Dominic said irritably.
But after hearing that Aurelia had been going to Crestview Plaza so often, and with not much else around there, the only real connection was Grant’s biotech company.
His stomach sank.
Jason stayed quiet. He knew this was all just speculation.
If Grant wanted to take care of her, he could give her any job— no real skills required.
Dominic rubbed his temples, trying to ease the pounding ache. “How often?”
“For the last six months, she’s gone every weekday. Sometimes even on weekends.”
Dominic was silent, the words hitting him like a freight train.
The silence stretched between them.
Every weekday, plus weekends? Wasn’t that basically working there? And weekends would be overtime.
Dominic felt like he couldn’t breathe.

he hadn’t known a thing about it…
He couldn’t even remember how he ended the call, his mind spinning with Aurelia’s and Grant’s names tangled together.

The next morning at breakfast, Gareth approached her respectfully.
“Ms. Smith, you have a banquet to attend tonight. The invitation and gift are ready.”
“Sebastian’s arrangement?” Aurelia asked.
Gareth nodded.
“Pick me up at Vertex Biotech this afternoon,” Aurelia said.
“Alright. I’ll be there at four.”
Aurelia looked up. “Have the miscarriage documents been released?”
“Yes,” Gareth replied. “Today’s buzz is even bigger than yesterday’s.”
Aurelia smiled. “Perfect.”

Didn’t Lauren feel so proud–having the whole Hawthorne family shielding her? And her wealthy mother backing her up too?
Today, she’d finally learn what it meant when no one’s protection could save her.
“Tomorrow,” Aurelia added calmly, “release the information about my car accident from two years ago.”
“Understood.”
Aurelia blew gently on a spoonful of porridge before taking a bite.
A little bit each day.
And with every passing day, Lauren’s torment only deepened.
That was exactly what Aurelia wanted–to make her suffer slowly, day by day, until living felt worse than death.
After a simple breakfast, Aurelia had Gareth drive her to
Vertex Biotech.
The car stopped in front of Crestview Plaza.
As Aurelia was about to get out, Gareth stopped her.

“Ms. Smith, should I pick you up for lunch later?”
“No need,” Aurelia replied, shaking her head.
With the research entering its initial phase, she was swamped.
“Then I’ll bring lunch to you,” Gareth said instead. “Mr. Smith insisted you can’t eat random food from outside right now.”
Aurelia paused, then nodded. “Alright.”
Her health was actually fine, but both Chloe and Sebastian were overly strict about her recovery. If Sebastian were here in person, she probably wouldn’t even be allowed to step outside.
After parting with Gareth, Aurelia walked toward the experimental facility behind Crestview Plaza.
As she rounded the corner, a familiar figure came into view.
Dominic.
He was leaning against the cold ceramic wall near the elevators, a half–smoked cigarette between his fingers. His long, straight legs stood out sharply against the sterile surroundings.
He was wearing the same clothes as yesterday–clearly, he’d spent the night at the hospital taking care of Lauren and hadn’t gone home to change.

Dominic didn’t move. He just stared at her.
Aurelia stopped as well.
Her gaze met his–cold, distant, unmoving.
