Chapter 37 You Need to Go
The sharp crack of the slap shattered Dominic’s restraint.
All his life, he had been pampered and respected.
In his mind, he had already humbled himself enough in front of Aurelia.
Before, whenever they fought, he’d say a few sweet words, and she would take the olive branch he offered.
But now, his patience had reached its limit.
He stood up, towering over her with cold, menacing eyes. “Aurelia. Don’t you dare-”
“Don’t push your luck? Is that what you were going to say?”
Aurelia cut him off mid–sentence.
She had heard that phrase countless times over the years in the Hawthorne family. Dominic had said it to her once before-
But Aurelia could see he was about to say it again.
She looked at him with mocking eyes. “My dignity–do I need you to give it to me? Have you ever given me any?”

dignity into the ground, leaving her powerless to fight back.
And now he was telling her not to push her luck?
How ironic.
Dominic’s breath quickened as they locked eyes.
Seeing the cold mockery in Aurelia’s dead eyes, he forced the rage in his chest down once more.
He crouched beside her again, his movements sharp yet measured. He took out a fresh cotton swab and medicine, his actions noticeably gentler this time.
But his voice still carried barely restrained anger. “You and Grant–have you known each other long before?”
Finally, he couldn’t hold back the question anymore.
Since last night, Dominic’s mind had been racing with theories about him and Aurelia. The more he thought about it, the more
confused he became.
By now, he was convinced Grant had come back specifically for Aurelia…
Sure, he and Aurelia had only started having serious problems in the past six months–mainly because of Lauren.

But if he thought about it, things had been subtly different between them ever since she had the miscarriage two years
ago.
When Dominic asked about Grant, Aurelia completely ignored him.
Seeing her silence, Dominic pressed on, his tone dark.
“Actually, he’s not a good guy.”
Aurelia couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Nothing had been proven yet, but he was already trying to ruin Grant’s reputation?
Just then, Dominic’s phone buzzed.
He pulled it out and saw that it was Eleanor calling.
Seeing the caller ID, Aurelia let out a cold laugh. “You need to
go.”
The look she gave him clearly said: See? I win the bet.
She’d bet that he wouldn’t last an hour before Lauren called
him away.
Now that Eleanor was calling, what else could it be about besides Lauren?

Dominic felt his annoyance flare just seeing the number.
He walked over to the floor–to–ceiling window to answer.
“Mrs. Lauren Hawthorne,” he said coldly. “Do you need more bodyguards? Just tell me how many more it’ll take to keep you from causing trouble.”
His words sliced through whatever Eleanor had been about to
say.
Last night when he left, he’d assigned nearly twenty bodyguards–not just outside the hospital room, but even
inside.
All to put an end to Lauren’s dramatic stunts.
Eleanor’s breathing hitched on the other end.
“Are you really gonna be this heartless to Lauren?”
“Dominic, are you even human? She just came back from the brink of death after delivering your brother’s babies!”
Dominic’s coldness triggered something in Eleanor, and she snapped.
“I hired a whole team to take care of her. What more do you want from me?” Dominic shot back, his voice dripping with 4/7 arrogance.

“If you think I’m being heartless, you’re just being ungrateful.”
The word “ungrateful” was one Eleanor used to throw around constantly–always aimed at Aurelia.
She’d tell her, “You’re just an orphan. Any little kindness from Dominic, you should be grateful.”
Now, Dominic was tossing that word at Lauren, and it made her blood boil.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm.
“She’s not doing well, Dominic. She’s got severe depression. How the hell can you expect her to be grateful for anything right now?”
Eleanor paused, trying to find the words.
“Do you really think she wants to see you? She just wants to see you because you and Adrian are twins who look exactly alike. That’s it!
“Stop giving me that cold crap. She hasn’t eaten since
yesterday. Just come to the hospital, make sure she eats, then you can do whatever you want.”
Eleanor was beyond frustrated with Dominic’s attitude toward Aurelia, but right now, all she cared about was Lauren. 5/7

Taking care of Lauren should’ve been simple, but it felt impossible now.
“Don’t order me around,” Dominic snapped, his voice cold.
“If she doesn’t want to eat, let her starve until she’s ready.”
Aurelia couldn’t help but glance at him, surprised by his harsh
stance.
“You-” Eleanor’s voice faltered.
“And don’t use Adrian to manipulate me. I’ve done more than enough for him already!”
Dominic’s eyes were like ice as he stared at the traffic below, his voice dripping with cold indifference.
Eleanor fell silent.
But just as the phone call lingered in the tense air, Lauren suddenly screamed, hurled the phone across the room, and broke down into hysterical sobs.
Eleanor jumped at the outburst, panic surging as she rushed to calm Lauren.
The hospital room erupted into chaos, and it was only then that Eleanor realized just how much the media storm had 6/7

escalated.
Yesterday, the headlines were all about Dominic and Aurelia’s marriage certificate and the divorce papers.
Last night, Lauren’s rooftop drama had managed to shift some public sympathy back in her favor.
But now…
Aurelia’s miscarriage records had been exposed!
