Chapter 47 Nothing but a Shell
Aurelia bent down and picked up her phone from the floor. She checked it. Completely trashed.
Dominic stared at her–her expression calm to the point of being lifeless.
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
“That phone cost twelve grand. I’ll have my lawyer add it to the
list of damages you owe in the divorce settlement.”
Dominic: “…”
That’s what she had to say?
Was that what he wanted to hear?
Her flat, indifferent tone made his blood boil.
“How did you even do this? Are you out of your goddamn
mind?”
He meant the fire at Emerald Bay. Those two suburban villas.
He knew about all of it.
A blaze that big at Emerald Bay? Marilyn would be out for hlopd.

Aurelia glanced at him coolly. Said nothing.
“Grant helped you, didn’t he?” Dominic’s voice sharpened with barely controlled fury at the mention of Grant’s name.
“The Evergreen Residences,” Aurelia said evenly, “was trashed an hour after Marilyn’s plane landed. Did you know about that?”
Dominic:

Seeing his face freeze, Aurelia tossed the broken phone into the trash.
“I thought you’d ask me why I did it.”
Dominic: “…”
She turned to face him. “From what you just said, sounds like I’m the one starting trouble?”
Every word came out calm. Measured.
Just like when she’d smashed that vase–same eerily composed expression.
But Dominic could see it. Her emotions were shattered.
Hearing about the Evergreen Residences being destroyed, his 2/7 rage flickered–tangled up in conflict.

Finally, he turned and walked out of the guest room,
The door slammed shut.
Aurelia let out a disdainful snort, glancing once more at the broken phone.
She picked up the bedside landline and dialed. Mary answered immediately.
“Mrs. Hawthorne?”
“Bring me a new phone.”
“Right away.”
Click.
Less than three minutes later, Mary delivered the phone.
Aurelia took it. “Thanks.”
Mary shook her head. “It’s my job, Mrs. Hawthorne.”
But she didn’t leave.
After switching her SIM card to the new phone, Aurelia looked at her.

“What is it?”
“Mr. Hawthorne is on the phone in his study. He’s furious. And… he mentioned you.”
Aurelia’s expression didn’t change. “Got it. I’m going to bed.”
With that, she closed the bedroom door.
She couldn’t care less about who Dominic was angry with or why.
Mary went downstairs to find Dominic in the living room.
He looked up, frowning. “She’s asleep?”
Mary nodded. “Yes, she said she’s going to bed.”
Dominic let out a bitter laugh. “Of course she can sleep.”
From yesterday to now, the mess she’d caused kept
snowballing. Everyone else was losing sleep–but somehow, she was perfectly fine.
Just then, Eleanor called, telling him to get to the hospital immediately.
Dominic knew Marilyn must’ve discovered something.

you handle Lauren without me?”
Eleanor snapped, “This isn’t about Lauren! Aurelia caused this disaster. Get her to the hospital. Now.”
First, she’d told him to come alone. Now she wanted Aurelia dragged along too.
Which meant Marilyn had uncovered the truth—and lost her mind.
Dominic’s tone went flat. “She’s asleep.”
Then he hung up.
He didn’t care if Eleanor had a damn heart attack over it. His
patience had run out months ago.
Now he didn’t care if it was his elders or anyone else—he’d fight them all!
Aurelia was half–asleep when she felt arms wrap around her. Instinct kicked in–she kicked back.
“Shit…” Dominic hissed through his teeth.
That woke her up.

She reached for the bedside lamp to throw him out, but Dominic caught her wrist and shoved it back under the covers.

At the hospital.
When Marilyn learned the truth, she nearly went insane.
Especially when Ray called to tell her that Emerald Bay Residences had been burned down to nothing but a shell.
Everything inside? Destroyed.
Her jewelry collection. Her cash reserves. All of it—ash.
Marilyn’s whole body shook with rage. She turned on Eleanor, eyes like ice.
“Your family is going to answer for this, Eleanor.”
“My daughter gave you twins—a boy and a girl—and you let that Aurelia run wild?”
“She torched my estate. Two villas. Gone.” Her voice went dangerously quiet. “So tell me–how exactly are the Hawthornes planning to compensate me?”
Eleanor’s temples throbbed, veins bulging.
Aurelia’s lost her mind. How the hell does she have the guts?

Chapter 48 I’ll Destroy You
Eleanor took a deep breath and forced herself to stay calm.
“Don’t worry. The Hawthorne family will give you an answer for this.”
Marilyn let out a cold, bitter laugh.
“I must’ve been blind to marry my daughter into this family.”
Sure, she’d made bank off Lauren’s marriage to the Hawthornes over the years–connections, status, money.
But right now? She wasn’t holding back.
Eleanor’s face darkened. “I said we’ll handle it!”
That was Eleanor’s way.
When she was in the wrong, she could swallow her pride and apologize.
But Marilyn’s “blind” comment? That reeked of looking down on the Hawthornes.
And that pissed her off.
All these years, the perks Marilyn got from the Hawthorne
