Chapter 46 Could It Be… Aurelia?
Marilyn was shaking with rage.
“How does a fire get that out of control?”
Her most important documents, valuables, jewelry–everything was in that Emerald Bay estate.
Hearing the fire was out of control made Marilyn’s blood pressure skyrocket.
Ray’s voice was strained. “The fire’s huge. Property management’s doing everything they can to put it out.”
Problem was, they couldn’t…
Marilyn’s eyes narrowed as she gritted her teeth. “Find out exactly what caused it. Now.”
This had better be a coincidence.
Because if someone had done this on purpose-
A cold gleam flashed in her eyes.
She’d made plenty of enemies in the business world over the years. But if any of them thought they could pull this kind of nevenge stunt?

They were dead wrong.
After Marilyn hung up, Lauren finally spoke.
“What’s going on? How did the Emerald Bay Residences catch fire?”
“How the hell should I know? That’s why I have Ray investigating,” Marilyn snapped, her face dark as thunder.
All she could do now was hope they got the fire under control before it destroyed everything that mattered.
Otherwise, this would be a total disaster.
Lauren flinched at the harsh tone and didn’t dare say another word.
Even though Marilyn was her own mother, her temper was legendary. When she was pissed, even Lauren knew to stay the hell out of her way.
But then something hit her. “Could it be… Aurelia?”
Marilyn paused and looked at Lauren. “Her?”
“She’s got nothing to lose now–she’ll do whatever the hell she
wants,” Lauren said. “Look what she’s done to this city. She’s burned New York to the ground.”

In Lauren’s mind, there was nothing Aurelia wouldn’t dare to do anymore.
But Marilyn just scoffed. “All she’s done is stir up some trashy media drama. Emerald Bay Residences? She doesn’t have the juice for that.”
Her voice dripped with contempt for Aurelia.
After all, she was just some orphan.
She couldn’t even get through the gates of Emerald Bay Residences, let alone get inside to start a fire.
But the next second, doubt crept in.
What if she was wrong? What if Aurelia was more dangerous than she thought?
Just then, Ray’s phone call came again.
“Mrs. Drake, your two villas in the eastern suburbs–they’ve been destroyed.”
Marilyn’s voice shot up. “What?”
Lauren went dead silent.
Marilyn was about to completely lose it. 3/7

First the mansion at Emerald Bay Residences, now the villas in the eastern suburbs?
What was this supposed to be? Make her homeless?
Whoever was behind this better pray she never found out who they were, or she’d crush them into dust,
“Find them,” Marilyn snarled into the phone. “I don’t care what it takes. Find out who the hell did this.”

That evening, Mary whipped up a late–night snack for Aurelia.
Aurelia picked at it, then headed straight to the guest room.
Dominic had disappeared somewhere.
She’d just gotten into bed when Gareth called.
“Ms. Smith, it’s done.”
“And the mansion?” Aurelia asked.
She didn’t really give a damn about the damage to Marilyn’s two small villas–that was just a nice bonus.
The real gut punch? The luxury estate at Emerald Bay Residences.

Marilyn spent most of her time at that place.
Most of her important and valuable stuff was probably stored there.
Marilyn thought trashing the Evergreen Residences would scare her?
And this was Aurelia’s payback.
“The whole place went up in flames,” Gareth reported. “By the time the fire department gets there and puts it out, all that’ll be left is a skeleton frame.”
Aurelia smiled. “Good. Don’t leave a trace.”
Nothing left. Perfect.
“Don’t worry,” Gareth said smoothly.
He’d spent years at Sebastian’s side handling situations like this. Cleanup was his specialty.
Like brother, like sister.
Gareth could see it now–Aurelia had that same ruthless edge as Sebastian.

Right after Aurelia hung up with Gareth, Dominic came back.
He found the bedroom, opened the door–but didn’t step inside. Just stood there in the doorway, backlit, expression unreadable.
Aurelia had a nightly ritual: one game before bed.
The moment Dominic opened the door, rapid–fire gunshots and explosions blared from her phone.
She was propped against the headboard, eyes glued to the
screen.
He stood there in the doorway—and she didn’t even glance up.
All the rage Dominic had been nursing on the drive home?
Seeing her casually playing a damn game like nothing was wrong?
It detonated.
He stormed over, ripped the phone from her hands, and hurled it to the floor with a sickening crash.
The battle sounds cut off instantly.
Aurelia finally looked up. Her eyes were ice. Nothing but ice. 6/7

Then, she threw off the covers, got out of bed, grabbed the vase from the nightstand–and with the exact same motion, the exact same force–smashed it on the floor.
CRASH.
Dominic just stood there, totally speechless.
