“Yes,” she said. “Papa is super rich.”

Still unsure what Cassie was planning-but unable to contradict her-Ashton turned to his son and smiled.
“Everything Papa owns also belongs to Kai,” he said gently. “One day, you’ll inherit it all.”
Kai stared at him with awe, then reached out and held onto Ashton’s arm, his small face glowing with pride.
“Papa worked so hard.”
The simple words struck deeper than any praise Ashton had ever received. His expression softened. He cupped Kai’s cheek tenderly.
“I have more reason to work hard now,” he said quietly. “Because I have Kai… and Mama.”
“When I grow up, I’ll help you, Papa,” Kai promised with complete sincerity.
Ashton smiled and ruffled his hair.
“Yes. I know you will, buddy.”
“So… let’s go home now,” Cassie said lightly.
The simple statement made Ashton turn sharply to look at her.
“Cass…” he murmured, hesitation clear in his voice.
She met his gaze with a soft, knowing smile, as if she hadn’t noticed the tension building inside him.
“You’re going to bring your son home, right?”
Ashton drew a slow breath, choosing his words carefully.
“CEO Wallace might be waiting for you,” he said gently.
“I can bring Kai with me… but I don’t think he’ll agree to stay tonight without you.”
There was concern in his tone-careful, respectful.
“You’re going to leave me?” Cassie asked, her lips pursing into a small sulk
Her expression turned almost wounded.
“So you’re only interested in our son now? You don’t need me anymore.” She shook her head dramatically.
“You’re heartless, Ashton Pierce.”
“That’s not what I meant, Cass,” Ashton said quickly, anxiety creeping into his voice.
“That’s how I understood it,” she insisted.
“Cass…” He lowered his voice, leaning slightly closer so Kai wouldn’t hear.
“You know exactly what I mean. I don’t want to disrespect CEO Wallace by bringing you both to my place. No matter what the situation is, he’s still your husband,”
But it was too late. Kai had already turned toward them, his curious eyes moving from one face to the other.
“Dada Drie is Mama’s husband?” he asked, surprise written all over his small face.
Ashton stilled. He had no choice now.

“Yes,” he said gently.
“That’s right. And Papa doesn’t want to make Dada upset by not bringing you back home tonight. But Papa will ask him if he can borrow you tomorrow.
Kai frowned, thinking.
“Dada won’t mind if Mama and I stay with Papa every night,” he said with a casual shrug, his small brows knitting together.
Ashton stared at his son, caught between honesty and caution. How much could a child understand about adult boundaries? About marriage? About right and wrong?
Still, he tried.
“Buddy…” he began softly.
“Mara and Dada are still married. And Papa can’t bring Mama home with me, even if I want to. That’s an adult matter. Bringing someone else’s wife to live with me would be… wrong.”
His voice was gentle, careful, almost pleading-for understanding.
Kai looked at him for a long moment, his face serious as he tried to process the explanation. Then he slowly turned toward
Cassie.
“But Mama isn’t Dada’s wife,” he said at last.
The certainty in his tone made Ashton blink.
“What do you mean?” Ashton asked quietly.
“Mama and Dada are married. That makes them husband and wife,”
Ashton’s voice was quiet but certain as he spoke, his eyes already shifting toward Cassie in silent question.
But Kai immediately shook his head, his little face scrunching up in confusion—as if the adults were the ones getting it all
wrong.
“They’re not husband and wife,” he insisted firmly.
Then, with the casual confidence of a child stating something completely obvious, he added-
“Mama isn’t married to Dada Drie.”
Ashton blinked, momentarily stunned.
Before he could respond, Kai leaned forward slightly, a mischievous giggle escaping him
“They fooled you too, Papa?” he said, clearly amused by the discovery.
