“Cassidy is the chairman of Malakai?” Red Knowles murmured, his voice barely audible, as if saying it any louder would make it real

“Dad…?” Mirriam turned to him, her face pale, her head shaking in frantic denial.

“How can this be? This isn’t right… this doesn’t make any sense.”

Her eyes darted back to the stage, locking onto Cassidy as trying to reconcile the woman she had always belittled with the revelation now forced upon her.

“That pathetic loser cannot be the chairman,” she insisted, her voice rising despite herself.

“She’s just a maid’s daughter-someone who grew up on scraps. Where would she even get the power to build a multi-billion- dollar empire?”

Her words, though sharp, carried an edge of desperation.

But Roel Danes let out a low, disbelieving snort, stepping forward once more-unwilling to let the moment slip from his grasp.

“If Cassidy Greene truly is the chairman of Malakai Group,” he said, his tone dripping with skepticism, “then perhaps she should start acting like one.”

His gaze swept across the stage before settling back on Cassidy and Ashton, a mocking glint flashing in his eyes.

“Is this the leader all of you proudly stand behind?” he continued, his voice rising just enough to reach every corner of the hall.

“A chairman entangled in an affair with her own appointed executive?”

A ripple of tension spread again among the guests.

“Doesn’t that raise serious questions about her integrity?” Roel pressed on, his lips curling into a sneer.

“About the legitimacy of CEO Pierce’s appointment?” He tilted his head slightly, feigning contemplation.

“Or are we all expected to believe that this was purely based on merit?” A soft, mocking chuckle escaped him.

“Because from where I stand,” he added coldly, “it looks very much like personal bias.”

For the first time that night, Ashton stepped forward. The movement alone drew attention.

The composed restraint he had maintained earlier seemed to fade, replaced by something darker-something far more dangerous His expression hardened as his cold gaze locked directly onto Roel Danes.

“Do I need to prove myself to you, President Danes?” Ashton asked quietly.

A slow, chilling smirk formed on his lips as he met the older man’s probing stare without the slightest hint of hesitation.

The tension in the hall thickened instantly

“Before Malakal ever set foot in Bay City,” Ashton continued, his voice steady yet edged with steel, “Pierce Corporation was already ruling this land ”

His gaze swept across the venue, deliberately meeting the eyes of the gathered businessmen and executives.

he said finndy, “was already carved into the foundation of this city’s business world long before Malakai Group of Companies was even built.”

My mate.

He paused, letting the weight of his words settle over the crowd

“Malakai chose Ashton Pierce because he had already proven his worth.”

A faint smirk lingered on Ashton’s lips as his gaze locked with Roel’s. For a brief moment, neither man looked away-an unspoken duel passing between them

Then Ashton exhaled lightly.

“But then…” he said, almost lazily, “I’ll indulge you tonight.”

Without breaking eye contact, he slipped a hand into his packet and pulled out his phone. The gesture was unhurried- deliberate.

The room seemed to lean in.

“Release a statement immediately,” Ashton said into the phone, his tone calm, controlled. “Pierce Corporation is terminating all collaborations with Danes Enterprise. Effective now.”

A beat of silence followed.

He ended the call just as casually as he had made it and slid the phone back into his pocket, his posture relaxed, both hands settling inside as if nothing significant had just occurred.

The entire venue fell into a stunned hush. All eyes shifted to Roel Danes.

For a second, the older man said nothing. Then he let out a scoff, lifting his chin with forced confidence.

“No entity can threaten Danes Enterprise, CEO Pierce,” Roel replied coldly.

“Losing the Pierce name on a few documents will not shake our foundation.” He gave a dismissive snort.
