Chapter 193

The ease from moments ago vanished completely-replaced by a dark, dangerous tension. His jaw tightened, his eyes sharpening with focus.

Cassie straightened immediately, the change in him enough to set off her instincts.

Ashton didn’t say another word. He simply turned to her and gestured toward the television at the foot of the bed.

Cassie didn’t hesitate. She grabbed the remote and turned it on.

The screen flickered to life-and immediately filled with breaking news.

Her brows furrowed the moment she recognized the face on screen.

Roel Danes.

Disheveled, but no less arrogant, he stood before a swarm of reporters, his lips curled into a smug, almost vindictive smile as cameras flashed relentlessly around him.

“Malakai Group and Pierce Corporation,” he declared, his voice dripping with malicious satisfaction, “have managed to offend one of the most powerful clans in the world.”

A low snort escaped him as he looked straight into the camera.

“And this time,” he added, “no one will be able

to

save them.’

Cassie’s grip on the remote tightened.

Onscreen, Roel leaned slightly forward, as if savoring every

second of the attention.

“One of Malakai’s subsidiaries has trespassed into the territory of a global oil magnate,” he continued, his implication. “And not only that-

Silence filled the room. The weight of the accusation hung heavy in the air.

Cassie’s eyes narrowed slightly, her mind already moving, dissecting ever word.

f “Not just that,” Roel continued on the screen, his voice dripping with satisfaction, “Pierce Corporation has also been exposed for engaging in dirty tactics-under-the-table negotiations to secure bidding contracts.”

He let out a mocking chuckle, shaking his head as if in disappointment.

“Pierce Corporation is not what we all thought it was,” he went on.

“It’s just another shady empire, using influence and deception to climb its way to the top,”

He clicked his tongue in feigned disgust. The broadcast echoed through the room.

Cassie and Ashton watched in silence, their expressions unreadable-absorbing every word, every insinuation

Then, slowly, they turned to look at each other.

No panic. No confusion. Only understanding

But before either of them could speak, Cassie’s phone rang.

She grabbed it without hesitation

“Drie-

“she answered quickly, already rising to a seated position as she listened.

Her expression shifted with every passing second-focused, calculating.

“…I see.”

A pause.

“Prepare everything,” she said calmly, her voice turning firm.

“I’ll handle this personally.” She ended the call without another word.

For a moment, she remained still, her gaze returning to the television-but it was clear her mind was already elsewhere, moving several steps ahead.

Beside her, Ashton is just as still.

His eyes remained on the screen, but he wasn’t watching anymore.

“This day…” Cassie murmured quietly, almost to herself, “isn’t going to be peaceful at all.”

She exhaled, then turned to him.

“I’ll be flying out of Bay City in an hour.”

Ashton nodded once, meeting her gaze without hesitation.

“I’ll be busy here as well.”

There was no need for further explanation.

They both understood the scale of what had just been set in motion.

“Kai will stay here with Madame Carina,” Cassie continued, already slipping out of bed.

“Mom Zab will be with him too. You won’t have to worry.”

She moved with quiet efficiency now, all traces of earlier softness replaced by the decisive air of a leader. Though both are stark naked as they walked towards the bathroom.

“He’ll be safe within Pierce territory,” Ashton replied, following her without pause.

“And I’ll make time for him.”

Cassie glanced back at him briefly-just enough for a small, knowing smile to form.

“I know.”

The sound of running water soon filled the bathroom as she stepped under the shower, letting the cascade wash over her

A moment later, Ashton joined her.

For a brief second, the urgency outside seemed to fade again-replaced by something quieter, steadier.

He reached for her hair, gently working his fingers through it as he helped rinse it, his movements unhurried despite everything waiting beyond those walls.

“You’re heading straight into the lion’s den, babe,” Ashton murmured softly

There was no fear in his voice. Only certainty.

Cassie tilted her head slightly, meeting his gaze through the falling water

“Cape City may be dangerous,” she said calmly, a quiet confidence int her tone, “but I trust the lions more than the sheeps elsewhere.”

A faint reassuring smile touched het lips.
