“You’ll need to secure an appointment first, Madame Greene,” the receptionist said with a polite, practiced smile.
“The CEO’s earliest availability is in a week-for a twenty-minute meeting.”
“A week?” Cassie repeated, her brows drawing together.
That was too long-far too long for a mere twenty-minute meeting.
She didn’t have the luxury of waiting. Not now. Not when everything had already been set into motion.
In a week, it wouldn’t just be negotiations on the line. It would be everything.
Her company. Her name. The empire she had painstakingly built from nothing. All of it could be torn apart before she even got the chance to sit across that man.
Her fingers curled slightly at her side, her mind racing through alternatives, calculations forming and dissolving just as quickly. “We can’t wait that long,” she said, her tone still composed, but firmer now.
“Is there any way to move us to the nearest available slot? This is urgent.”

Beside her, Zandrie stepped forward, offering the receptionist one of his signature disarming smiles.
“Perhaps there’s a cancellation? A gap in the schedule?” he added smoothly.
“We won’t take much of his time.”
The receptionist maintained her professionalism, though there was a hint of apology in her eyes.
“CEO Wallace,” she said gently, “everyone requesting an appointment has urgent matters as well.”
She gestured subtly toward the sleek waiting area behind them/
“Some have traveled for days-business leaders, politicians/influential figures from across the globe. But we strictly follow the scheduling system to ensure fairness and efficiency.” Her smile remained, unwavering.
“We can’t make exceptions.”
Silence settled between them.
Cassie and Zandrie exchanged a brief look.
“Please…,” Cassie began, her voice softer now, stripped of authority and edged with urgency.
Could you at least inform the CEO that the Chairman of Malakai Group is here to speak with him?”
he receptionist paused.
Chairman… of Malakai Group?” she repeated slowly, her eyes narrowing as she studied Cassie more intently-then briefly flicking toward Zandrie.
“Yes,” Cassie nodded, forcing a composed smile despite the pressure building inside her.
“We’re from Malakai Group. And we urgently need to speak with the CEO.”
For a moment, the woman said nothing. Then her expression changed. The politeness remained- but the warmth vanished.
“Malakai,” she said, her tone cooling, “has caused quite a disturbance.” Her gaze sharpened.
“It’s been all over the news these past few days. And the CEO is… not pleased.”

Cassie felt the weight of those words, but she didn’t back down.
“That’s exactly why I’m here, she said quickly.
“I came as soon as I could to address this personally.” She held the woman’s gaze, refusing to waver.
“I need to speak with him.”
