Chapter 195

“Have you prepared everything we need, Riley?” he asked as he took his seat behind the desk.

Riley was already there, standing by with several folders in hand.

“Yes, Ashton,” he replied promptly, placing them neatly in front of him. “But we’re still waiting on additional documents.”

Ashton gave a slight nod and opened the first folder, his eyes scanning the contents with swift precision.

Riley remained beside him, watching carefully.

“He’ll call you any minute now,” Riley said quietly, glancing at the phone resting on the desk.

“I’m expecting it,” Ashton replied without looking up.

“The news would’ve reached them by now.” He flipped a page, unfazed.

“Monitor the inbox closely,” he added, finally lifting his gaze to Riley.

“They’ll start digging. Everything they find-send it here.” Riley nodded toward the stack.

“They’ve already started. Some files came in earlier.”

A faint, almost amused huff escaped Ashton.

“They’re quick.”

He leaned back slightly, continuing to review the documents.

But as he read, something shifted. An ominous smirk slowly carved its way onto his lips. Satisfied.

He turned another page, completely absorbed-When the phone/rang.

Right on cue.

Riley didn’t need to say a word. He simply nudged the device closer.

Ashton picked it up.

“Ashton speaking.”

Silence followed as the person on the other end spoke.

He listened.

His expression didn’t change-but his eyes darkened, focus sharpening.

“I’ll handle it,” he said after a moment, his tone calm, assured.

“You’ve already sent everything I need.”

“I have something more important to deal with “His expression darkened.

“Ensure everything moves as planned,” he finished, before ending the call.

Silence settled in the office once more. Riley glanced at him, already sensing the shift. Ashton’s eyes were no longer on the documents.

They were elsewhere.

“Cassie?” Riley asked carefully.

“She’s already on her way to Cape City,” Ashton said, his voice low.

A dangerous edge crept in.

“She’s walking straight into a wolf’s den.”

He stood abruptly, the chair scraping softly against the floor as the last trace of stillness in the room vanished.

“And I’m not letting her face that alone.”

Without another word, Ashton strode toward the floor-to-ceiling glass wall. He stopped just inches from it, his reflection faintly mirrored against the sprawling city beyond.

Below, Bay City churned in chaos-traffic snarled, media vans clustered like vultures outside his building, people moving in restless urgency.

His gaze lifted, cutting through the towering structures as if he could already see beyond them.

Beyond Bay City. Beyond the storm Roel had stirred.

“Prepare the private plane,” Ashton said, his voice calm but absolute.

“I’ll meet with the lawyers, then I’m leaving.”

He didn’t turn.

“The team is already on their way,” Riley replied from behind him, equally composed.

A brief silence followed before Ashton spoke again.

“You’ll be in charge while I’m away.”

Now he turned. Slowly.

His expression was no longer just cold-it carried something far more dangerous.

“Don’t touch Roel Danes,” he added, his tone deliberate.

“Let him play his games. Let him believe he’s winning.” An ominous smirk curved his lips.

“Play along with his schemes.” His eyes darkened.

“I’ll deal with him personally… once Cassie and I return.”

The promise in his voice wasn’t loud. But it was absolute.

Riley met his gaze

and a similar smirk formed on his own.

“Understood,” he said casually, slipping his hands into his pockets.

“I’ll let him enjoy his little game,” Riley added, a faint, knowing smirk tugging at his lips.

“In the meantime… focus on Cassie.”

Ashton held his gaze for a brief second. Without any more words spoken, understanding passed between them-clear, precise.

Then Ashton turned back to the glass wall.

The city stretched endlessly before him, its towering skyline reflected in his darkened eyes. From above, Bay City looked untouchable-powerful, thriving.

But Ashton wasn’t seeing any of it. His mind had already moved far beyond.

To Cape City. To her.

“Wolf don’t tolerate traitors,” Ashton muttered, his voice low, almost to himself.

“And in his eyes… Malakai is exactly that.” His jaw tightened.

“She’s walking straight into hostile territory.”

A beat of silence followed, heavy with implication.

“He could crush her….” Ashton continued, his gaze hardening as his reflection stared back at him.

“…and destroy everything she’s built… in a matter of seconds.”
