Chapter 209

Bay City descended into chass the moment Cassie and Ashton returned.

The news had spread faster than anyone could contain. Every outlet carried the same headline-the fall of Malakai Group.

Speculation flooded the streets. Some were shocked. Some were uncertain. But not everyone was mourning. Some were celebrating.

“In just a matter of hours, Malakai is finished,” Roel Danes declared in front of the press, his voice carrying easily over the noise. A smug, triumphant smile stretched across his face.

“It seems the company wasn’t as powerful as people believed.” He let out a short, mocking laugh.

“And even Ashton Pierce can’t do anything about it.”

Cameras flashed as reporters leaned in, eager for more.

“No one escapes the reach of the petroleum giants,” he went on, his tone laced with satisfaction.

“Malakai Group made the mistake of crossing them.” He paused, letting the words settle.

“And now they’re paying for it.”

A few murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“Let this be a lesson,” Roel added, his smirk deepening.

“No one stands against them and walks away-not even someone like Ashton Pierce.”

Around him, reactions varied-some nodding in agreement, others exchanging uncertain looks.

But the damage was already done. The narrative had taken hold. And Bay City was already starting to believe it.

“In a few hours, a representative from Petrov Petroleum will be arriving,” Roel Danes announced, unable to hide his

satisfaction.

“And when they do, Malakai Group’s fate will be decided.”

A low murmur spread through the crowd.

“President Danes,” one reporter called out, pushing forward, “does this mean you have direct contact with Petroy Petroleum?”

Roel didn’t hesitate.

“I do,” he said, lifting his chin slightly.

“The Petrovs don’t deal with just anyone. They’re selective. Careful. Trust isn’t given-it’s earned.”

There was pride in the way he said it.

Another reporter quickly followed.

“Then you’ll be the one receiving them? Not CEO Ashton Pierce or Chairman Cassidy Greene?”

Roel let out a short, amused scoff.

“Of course it will be me,” he said, as if the answer was obvious.

“Do you really think the Petrovs would concern themselves with people like them?”

A few cameras zoomed in closer.

“I doubt they even know who Ashton Pierce or Cassidy Greene are,” he added, his smirk returning.

Around him, the reporters exchanged glances some intrigued, others skeptical-but none challenged him.

Roel stood there, composed, assured. Victorious.

And just as he had declared, an entourage arrived after several hours.

A line of black vehicles pulled up in front of Greene Corporation, drawing every eye in the area. The atmosphere shifted instantly

as a group of sharply dressed men stepped out-measured movements, controlled expressions, presence alone enough to command attention.

Inside, Ashton and Cassie were already waiting.

Zandrie stood beside them, along with key executives. The room had been prepared, filled with media and selected guests- handpicked by Roel himself.

The doors opened. They entered.

“CEC Pierce,” Roel began, stepping forward with visible pride, “allow me to introduce the distinguished delegates from Petrov Petroleum-Director Boris Lukin and Director Roman Belsky.”

There was a hint of ownership in his tone, as if their presence validated him.

Ashton didn’t react to it. He stepped forward, composed, extending his hand.

“Welcome to Bay City, Directors,” he said evenly.

They accepted the handshake-brief, formal. No warmth.

“We’re here under the directive of CEO Vasili Wright,” Roman Belsky stated, his eyes settling on Ashton for a moment before shifting to Cassie.

“I trust you understand the purpose of our visit,” Boris Lukin added, his gaze sweeping across the room- -taking in the media,

the guests, the setup.

The air grew tight. No one spoke.

Cameras were ready. Eyes fixed. Every person in the room waiting for what would come next.

“On behalf of Malakai Group of Companies, Greene Corporation is prepared to receive you, Directors.”

Cassie stepped forward. No smile. No extended hand. Just a formal acknowledgment.

The two men turned to her. Their gazes sharpened-measuring, assessing-but she didn’t shirt under it.

“This is Chairman Cassidy Greene of Malakai Group,” Roel inserted quickly, stepping in as if to anchor the moment.

Director Belsky let out a short, amused breath.

“As I recall,” he said, his eyes lingering on Cassie with open disdain, “Malakai Group no longer has a Chairman.”
