“Mirriam…? What are you saying?” Red’s voice came out unsteady, almost hollow, as if the name itself no longer belonged to the person standing before him.

He stared at her as though trying to reconcile the daughter he thought he knew with the woman now looking back at him. But there was nothing familiar in her expression. No hesitation. No guilt. Only cold amusement.

“Your daughter is over there,” Mirriam said lightly, tilting her chin toward Cassie with a mocking smile.

“The one born from a maid… the one who spent her entire life trying to earn even a scrap of your approval.” Her chuckle was

soft, but it cut deep.

“She tried so hard, didn’t she? Ever since she learned how to walk, she’s been chasing after you hoping you’d finally look at

her like she mattered.” Mirriam’s eyes gleamed with cruel satisfaction.

“And what did you do?” she pressed, her voice laced with biting mockery. “You pushed her away every single time-again and again-without a second thought.”

Her lips curved into a cruel smile as she held his gaze.

“All because, in your eyes, I was the precious one.” She let out a soft, humorless laugh.

“Funny, isn’t it? The one you cherished most… is the one who was never truly yours.”

Red’s jaw tightened, his fists curling at his sides.

“Unfortunately,” she went on, her tone sharpening, “she can’t help you now. Even if she crawls back to you, desperate to please you again, she has nothing to offer.” A derisive laugh slipped past her lips.

“She’s just as pathetic as you are.”

“Enough.” Red’s voice dropped, strained but dangerous.

He tore his gaze away from Mirriam and turned sharply to Roel Danes, who stood nearby far too calmly for someone at the center of such a revelation.

“Roel Danes,” Red demanded, each word edged with fury, “what is the meaning of this?”

Roel didn’t flinch.

Instead, a slow, almost indulgent smirk spread across his face-as if he had been waiting for this moment for years.

“Well,” he began casually, adjusting his cufflinks, “Rima and I have been together since your marriage.

The words landed like a blow.

“At the time, I was still struggling-just another man trying to build something from nothing,” he continued.

“Meanwhile, the Knowles family was already firmly established in Bay City.”

He gave a small shrug, as though what came next were the most logical thing in the world.

“So we made a compromise.”

Red’s expression darkened, disbelief warring with rising rage.

“As the esteemed Madame of the Knowles family, Rima had access to resources I didn’t,” Roel went on smoothly.

“She funded me. Supported my business until I built a name strong enough to stand on its own.

His smirk deepened.

“And when she got pregnant… we both knew the child was mine.” His gaze flicked briefly toward Mirriam, pride unmistakable.

A smug smile tugged at his lips as he looked back at Red.

“But you should be thanking me,” he added coolly.

“I allowed her to remain your wife.”

Red took a step back, shaking his head slowly, as if the truth itself were too grotesque to accept.

“Our child’s future,” Roel added, his voice laced with triumph, “was far more promising as a Knowles heiress.”

Silence fell heavy in the room. The weight of betrayal, deception, and years of lies pressed in from all sides.

And for the first time in a long while, Red Knowles-who had built his life on control and power-looked like a man who had just realized everything he believed in had been nothing more than a carefully crafted deception

“No… this can’t be true…” Red murmured under his breath, his voice hollow as he shook his head in quiet denial.

For a moment, the room seemed to tilt around him-years of certainty unraveling all at once. Then his gaze shifted to Cassie.

Something flickered in his eyes-regret, perhaps, or the faint, desperate instinct to reach for something familiar amidst the chaqs. But Cassie didn’t move.
