Chapter 219
He took a slow step back, giving the newcomers a clearer view of the mess.
“According to them, Hawk ordered everything-the appointment of Roel Danes to oversee Malakai Group, the attempt to seize Pierce Corporation… all of it.”
His gaze lingered on the two directors, cold and knowing.
“And they simply obeyed.”
“Really?” Lia gasped, her reaction exaggerated, one hand lifting to her chest in mock shock.
“Hawk did all that?” Her eyes flicked down to Belsky, the amusement in them barely concealed.
“But..” she added, tilting her head slightly, “there’s no one named Hawk under Petrov command.”
Vasili’s lips curved faintly, his gaze sharpening as it settled on the two men.
“There isn’t,” he confirmed, his voice calm but loaded with implication. “No one by that name exists in our ranks.”
Lia’s expression shifted-not to surprise, but to something more predatory.
“Hawk doesn’t exist?” she echoed, her gaze locking onto Director Belsky, studying him like prey caught in a trap.
“Then how is it that you know him, Director?” she narrowed her eyes on him.
Then Samuel’s voice followed, smooth and inquisitive, though no less dangerous.
“Yes,” he said, glancing down at them. “Why is that, Directors?”
The room fell silent once more. But this time, the stillness didn’t last. Lia exhaled softly, her patience already wearing thin.
“Well,” she began, almost dismissively, “they could have heard about Hawk within Petrov facilities. It’s not entirely impossible.” She tilted her head slightly, her gaze sharpening as it landed on Belsky and Lukin.
“We trusted them, after all.” A faint, knowing smile touched her lips.
“And trust,” she added lightly, “can be a very dangerous thing.”
The two men stiffened under her scrutiny, their fear only deepening. Lia took a slow step forward, her heels clicking softly against the floor.
“But really,” she continued, her tone almost conversational, “what does it matter if they know about Hawk?”
A pause, then, casually—
“They won’t live long enough to tell anyone anyway.” Her words landed like a blade.
Belsky and Lukin both froze, their eyes widening in sheer horror. Whatever hope they had been clinging to shattered instantly. Even Cassie felt it-the shift, the cold finality in Lia’s voice that made her chest tighten.
“Oh-” Lia suddenly clapped a hand over her mouth, her brows lifting as if only just realizing what she’d said. “Sorry.”
She turned toward Cassie, her expression softening into something far more approachable almost warm.
“You’re Cassie, right?” she asked, her tone brightening as though the previous moment hadn’t happened at all.
“We didn’t get the chance to properly meet back in Cape City.” She stepped closer, offering a friendly smile.
“I’m Lia-Vasili’s wife.”
The contrast was jarring

Cassie blinked, momentarily caught off guard, but managed a small nod.
“Hello, Lia.”
Lia’s smile widened in approval before her attention shifted.
“Oh-and this,” she said, gesturing lightly to the woman beside Samuel, “is Kamilla-Samuel’s wife.”
At that, Kamilla finally stepped forward, her gaze already fixed on Cassie.
There was something intense in the way she looked at her-not hostile, but searching. Measuring.
“You look familiar,” Kamilla said slowly, her voice thoughtful, her eyes narrowing just slightly as if chasing a memory that refused to fully surface.
Cassie didn’t look away.
A faint crease formed between her brows as she studied her in return, searching just as intently.
