“You’ve grown… far more beautiful than I remembered. I never thought we’d see each other again.” Cassie said, her voice soft with wonder, a wide smile breaking across her face as disbelief shimmered in her eyes.
“Cassie!” Kamilla cried, her voice bright with emotion as she rushed forward and threw her arms around her.
The force of it made Cassie gasp. “Goodness-you’re not twelve anymore, Kamilla-” she laughed breathlessly, stumbling back from the impact. Lia quickly stepped in, steadying her before she could lose her balance completely.
“Do you two know each other?” Lia asked, her brows lifting as her gaze flickered between them, curiosity evident.
Across the room, Ashton, Samuel, and Vasili watched in silence, their attention drawn to the unexpected reunion.
Kamilla didn’t answer immediately. She held onto Cassie as if afraid she might disappear again, clinging to her for a long moment before finally pulling back-just enough to look at Lia.
“When I left Monte Cristo,” Kamilla began, her voice quieter now, threaded with memory, “I wandered airlessly, trying to find my way to Damian Laskin. I had nothing-no food, no place to go. I didn’t want to steal… and I refused to rely on my poison just to survive.”
Her grip on Cassie tightened slightly.
“But someone in this city helped me,” she continued, her gaze softening.
“I searched for small jobs just to get by. I saved every coin, hoping I could afford the days of uncertainty to find Damian. And all that time… this girl-” she glanced fondly at Cassie “-she made sure I never went hungry. She even slipped me extra money whenever she could.”
Kamilla pulled Cassie closer again, as if emphasizing every word.
“She was my lifeline… even when her own life was far from easy/
Samuel’s gaze sharpened slightly as he stepped forward. “So she’s the one you’ve been searching for here in Bay City, love?”
Kamilla nodded, her lips curving into a small, bittersweet smile. “Yes. I promised her… that once I found Damian-and once I was old enough-I’d come back for her.” Her expression dimmed slightly.
“But life became… complicated.”
A soft chuckle slipped from Lia as she gestured toward the two fallen directors.
“So Cassidy is the person you planned to find after dealing with those two?”
“Yes,” Kamilla admitted.

“I was even planning to visit her school to ask about her whereabouts. That is all I could recall about her” She turned back to Cassie, her smile brightening again.
“I just didn’t expect to find you like this… you are with Ashton Pierce.”
“And I never imagined you’d end up married into the Petrov family,” Cassie replied, awe lacing her voice.
“Do you have any idea how powerful they are?”
“Well,” Lia interjected with a playful glint in her eyes, “you’re no difference yourself.” She tilted her head toward Ashton.
“What most people don’t know is that Ashton’s mother is a Wright heiress. Atasha Wright-she’s Papa Lucien and Aunt Samantha’s cousin.”
“Wright?” Director Belsky’s voice came out as a horrified whisper.

“Ashton Pierce… is a Wright?”
Lukin turned toward him, both their faces paling as realization dawned-along with the weight of what it meant for them.
“Oh?” Lia’s tone turned almost anused, though her eyes held a sharp edge.
“You mean to say you’ve spent decades plotting against the Petrovs… and never uncovered Hawk’s true identity?”
Silence answered her.
“Well then,” she continued smoothly, a faint smile curving her lips, “allow me to enlighten you.” She gestured casually toward
Ashton.
“Yes, Pierce is a Wright. Vasili’s cousin-second cousin, to be precise.”
