It took a grueling ten minutes before his agonizingly slow reply finally came through.
*[What time? Where? I'll come pick you up myself.]*
Willa considered her options before typing: *[Seven o'clock. Wait downstairs.]*
*[Okay.]*
Saturday, six-fifty in the evening.
Willa finished dinner, changed her clothes, informed Arthur she was heading out, and went downstairs.
Night had already fallen. The moment she stepped out of the building, she instantly spotted his familiar car parked by the curb.
She walked straight over, pulled open the car door, and slid inside.
Randal was seated in the back, clearly having meticulously dressed up for the occasion.
Willa offered him a faint smile, saying nothing.
"Where are we eating?"
"I already ate," Willa replied, leaning back against the leather seat. "Let's just go."
"Then where are we going?" Randal asked, visibly stunned.
Willa gave the driver the name of a high-end hotel.
Randal turned his head to stare at her. His eyes were wide with shock and confusion, masking a desperate, wildly unbelievable hope.
"Why are we going to a hotel?"
Willa shifted her body to face him. Her lips curled into a slow, tantalizing smile. "What else do people do at a hotel? You practically begged me to come to you. What, are you getting cold feet now?"
Randal's breathing completely derailed. He reached out, his large hand enveloping hers. "Willa..."
Willa could clearly feel the clammy layer of sweat already coating his palm.
