Chapter 289 Just Gone

A notification hit my phone while I was still half–asleep on the couch. At first, I thought it was another investor complaint or some routine update from the board. I opened it without thinking.
The moment I saw the header, my stomach tightened.
URGENT: TERMINATION OF SHAREHOLDER RIGHTS
I sat up straight. I blinked, thinking maybe I opened the wrong email, but no–my name was right there,
bold and clear.
I opened the attached document. Line after line spelled out the same thing in the coldest, most official tone I had ever seen.
I had lost everything.
My shares–every last one–had been bought out by an anonymous investor. Not “some.” Not “a portion.” All.
The email said the acquisition was done legally, through approved channels, and that as of that moment, I no longer had decision–making rights in the company I had built with my own hands.
I read it twice. Three times. It didn’t change.
“Impossible,” I muttered.
I logged into the shareholder portal, hands shaking. The numbers didn’t lie. My name wasn’t even on the list anymore.
Gone.
Just gone.
I pushed away from the desk so hard the chair rolled into the wall. My wolf growled under my skin, restless and angry, but that didn’t fix anything. Whoever bought me out had been smart–too smart. None of the proxy companies were familiar. They came from places I didn’t even do business with.
Someone planned this.
Someone wanted me out.
And they did it right under my nose.
Before I could even start to think through the mess, my phone rang again. This time it was from the Pack Council. I answered because I had no choice.
“Mark Grey,” the voice said, calm and firm, “effective immediately, you are suspended from all pack leadership activities pending investigation into financial irregularities connected to pack–owned properties.”

I gripped the edge of the desk. “What irregularities? Who filed this?”
“That is confidential until the review is completed. Do not attend pack meetings. Do not contact council members. You will be summoned if needed.”
The line went dead.
I stared at the phone like it had insulted my bloodline.
First the company. Now the pack.
It didn’t make sense. It felt like both worlds were collapsing at the same time, and I couldn’t even figure out who was pulling the strings.
I slammed the phone on the table and stood there, breathing hard, trying to steady myself. My wolf pushed harder, agitated and restless. I tried to keep control, but irritation flooded me.
I didn’t even hear Clara’s footsteps until she spoke from behind me.
“Mark? I’ve been calling you.” She walked in, brushing her hair behind her ears like she hadn’t caused enough chaos already. “I need some money. My card keeps bouncing. I don’t know what the issue is.”
I turned slowly. “Clara… not now.”
She frowned. “Why are you talking like that? I said I need money. I’m going out with friends later, and—”
“I said not now.”
She stopped, thrown off by my tone. “What’s your problem? You’ve been snapping at me for days.”
I let out a short, humorless laugh. “You want to know my problem? Fine. I just got informed that all my shares have been bought out. Everything I own in that company is gone.”
She blinked. “What do you mean gone?”
“Gone means gone, Clara!” My voice rose. “I don’t own anything anymore. Not a percentage. Not a vote. Nothing.”
Her eyes widened, but instead of concern, I saw suspicion. “So… you’re saying someone bought you out without you knowing? How do you lose a company without noticing? That sounds like something Amy would do.”
The moment she said Amy’s name, something hit a nerve.
“This has nothing to do with Amy,” I snapped.
“It does! She’s behind everything! First the rumors, then the mockery at the gala, now this. She’s trying to destroy you because she hates me-”
I cut her off sharply. “Everything isn’t about you.”
“That is not what I said-”

“That is exactly what you said!” I rubbed my forehead, trying to stay calm. “You think everyone wakes up planning how to ruin your day. Not everything circles around you, Clara.”
