Chapter 291 Signature

Daniel walked into my office while I was reviewing a new licensing proposal. The air shifted under the weight of his alpha aura, steady and unmistakable.
Every wolf in the building always reacted to it. My wolf felt it first and pushed forward inside me, recognizing her mate and her Alpha.
“I need you to get ready,” he said. “There’s an Alpha Summit in thirty minutes. We have to be there.”
I set down the file in my hand. “Now?”
“Yes. This one can’t happen without me.” He stepped closer. “And it can’t happen without you.”
My role as Licensing Officer of Carter Enterprise Holdings wasn’t a small position. I approved or denied contracts, expansions, territorial projects, and any business that crossed into pack–controlled land.
Daniel made sure the packs understood that my signature was very important. I didn’t take it lightly.
“Alright,” I said. “Let me grab my tablet.”
I followed him out of the office. Wolves bowed their heads when they saw him. Some nodded at me with respect. Being Luna wasn’t a simple ceremonial title. It came with expectations, and I had grown into it faster than anyone predicted.
The elevator doors opened, and once we were inside, Daniel pressed the button for the top floor.
He looked at me while the doors shut. “The Summit will help stabilize some tensions after the news about Mark losing his shares. A few alphas are trying to use the situation to stir trouble.”
“How does that affect the northern packs?” I asked.
“They think I backed the anonymous investor,” he said. “Which is none of their business. But they’re curious wolves. You know how that goes.”
I nodded. “Curious usually becomes nosy.”
“Exactly.” He took my hand. “Stay close during the meeting. Your presence alone makes it clear the North isn’t unstable.”
We reached where a private car waited. Daniel’s Beta opened the door, and we got in. The ride didn’t take long. The Summit building stood on neutral ground–a stone structure guarded by warriors from several packs.
Inside, the hall buzzed with conversation. Alphas stood in small circles, discussing politics, territory, or alliances. When Daniel walked in, several heads turned. Some greeted him with respect. Others watched him quietly, as if trying to measure him.
His fingers brushed mine. “Stay with me.”

I did. That’s how it was supposed to be.

The Summit started soon after. The issues were predictable: land disputes, border patrol concerns, rogue sightings, and the rising tension caused by Mark’s downfall. Some alphas tried to pry for details. Daniel didn’t entertain any of it.
“Carter Holdings stands firm,” he said. “The North stands firm. Any internal affairs involving wolves outside our territory are private. There will be no speculation allowed.”
His voice carried across the room with the authority of someone who didn’t need to raise it. The murmurs calmed. Order returned. The meeting wrapped up smoother than expected.
One of the moderators said, “Thank you, Alpha Carter. The Summit appreciates your leadership.”
Daniel nodded but didn’t linger. He placed a hand on my back and guided me toward the exit. “Let’s head back. I don’t want you wasting your whole day on meetings.”
“Lucky for me, you’re the CEO,” I said. “You can dismiss yourself anytime.”
He smirked. “Exactly.”
Back at Carter Enterprise Holdings, things returned to normal. I went straight to my office to finish reviewing the licensing application I started earlier. The building always had a clean rhythm: footsteps, quiet conversations, tapping keyboards. It was efficient. It was organized. It was ours.
I’d barely reached the halfway point of the document when I heard shouting in the hallway.
High–pitched, loud, and full of accusation.
I sighed and stood up. Daniel had gone to the Thirty–Second Floor for a meeting with the Board, so this one fell on me. I opened my door and stepped out.
Clara stood in the middle of the hallway, hair messy, eyes wild. She pointed at my office door like she owned the place.
“She ruined my life!” she yelled. “She destroyed Mark’s company! She turned the whole pack against us! She’s a thief! A liar! A snake! She thinks she’s powerful because she sleeps beside an Alpha!”
Every wolf in the hallway froze. Some backed away. Some whispered. A few guards tightened their stance, waiting for my command.
I walked toward her slowly. My wolf stayed alert, pressing against my skin, ready to react if needed.
“Who let her into this building?” I asked calmly without taking my eyes oll Clara.
One of the security wolves spoke up. “She forced her way past the front desk before we could stop her. She said she had an appointment with you.”
“I don’t have any appointment with her.”
Clara stepped forward. “You think you can pretend? You think you can hide what you did? Mark lost everything because of you!”
