Chapter 307 Hiding Too Much

I escorted Mark’s legal advisor into the interrogation room myself. The guards waited outside as I shut the door behind us.
The man sat there with his hands folded like he came for a friendly talk. I took the seat across from him and watched him closely. His scent didn’t show panic. It didn’t even show discomfort. He acted like he had nothing to lose.
I asked him the same questions I asked earlier, only this time with no small talk.
“Who helped Mark pull funds through our internal accounts?”
He smiled and looked straight at me. “Mark has more allies than you think. Some sit closer than you realize.”
The way he said it made my wolf tense. It wasn’t about the words. It was confidence. He wasn’t guessing. He
knew.
I leaned closer. “Give me a name.”
He shrugged. “Names will reveal themselves soon. You should focus on your side, Alpha. Your house is not as united as you believe.”
I stood. He stayed calm. I didn’t like that. My wolf didn’t like it either.
“I’m moving you into custody,” I told him. “You talk when you’re ready.”
“I will talk when it matters,” he answered.
The guards took him away. I stepped out of the room, pulling in a long breath as my wolf pushed forward, alert. Everything about this felt wrong.
Too many people were moving around us with clear purpose, while we were still trying to map their
pattern.
I headed to the control room to check border updates. One of the southern patrol teams had flagged movement near the line separating our pack from the southern territory. The report came in written form first, then the patrol lead called me directly.
“Alpha, the activity was organized. Not scattered. It didn’t look like rogues passing through.” he said.
“Did you see formation?” I asked.
“A formation, yes. Four wolves. Trained.”
I thanked him and cut the call, then immediately called the southern alpha. His voice came through.
“There’s no patrol from my side near your border today he said.
“You’re sure?” I asked.
Yes. My wolves are accounted for.”

His tone lacked honesty. My wolf responded with a low internal growl. I didn’t push it further. If he was hiding something, pressing over the phone would only make him tighten up.
After the call, I headed outside to cool my head, but I caught a scent I knew too well–Clara. It was strong. and it shouldn’t have been there. She was supposed to be in the guest wing under supervision.
Her scent led toward the old storage building–an area she had no permission to enter. That building kept old treaties, border agreements, and alliance documents Not something anyone outside leadership should have access to.
I followed the scent and found her at the door, fidgeting with the keypad. When she sensed me, she froze. Her wolf stirred under her skin.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
She turned slowly. “I was looking for something that could clear my name.”
“By breaking into restricted storage?” I asked.
She tried to stand her ground, but her wolf exposed her. She avoided my eyes. “I heard there were old records. I thought maybe Mark’s name came up before. Or Elias.”
“That’s not how this works,” I said. “If you needed something, you could have asked.”
“That hasn’t gone well for me lately,” she muttered.
“I’m putting you under stricter supervision,” I said. “Cole will take over your movements.”
Her shoulders stiffened. She didn’t argue, but I saw the flicker of frustration in her eyes. She still played innocent, but my wolf wasn’t buying it.
Something about her scent kept shifting. Fear. Guilt. Nervousness. It mixed too often to trust her.
Cole arrived quickly. I told him, “Stay very close to her. No exceptions.”
He nodded and took her away.
Once they were gone, I checked the keypad logs. Someone had disabled the last log using an admin code. That made the situation even worse.
Clara shouldn’t have been anywhere near that code, which meant someone else overheard something she shouldn’t have heard.
gave it to her–or she
I locked the building, then headed back toward the packhouse. Every step made the pressure building in my head worse. Nothing was isolated anymore. Every lead tied to two others.
As I walked in. I heard Amy’s voice from inside one of the bunker rooms. She sounded steady, but I could tell she had been focused for a while. When I stepped into the room, she looked up from her phone.
“Bella just called,” she said.
I sat beside her. “What did she find?”
“One of the board members at Carter Holdings met someone privately last week. The description matches Elias.”

“Which board member?” I asked.
“Mr. Radden.”
Radden had been on the board for years. He rarely stirred trouble. That didn’t mean he was harmless.
