I watched Amy move through Carter Holdings with her usual focus, but I knew her mind wasn’t fully on the office. The past weeks had been relentless–Elias, Mark, Clara, the threats–but for now, the northern territory was stabilizing, and the company was back under control.
I kept a low profile, letting her lead while staying close enough to intervene if needed.
“Everything looks in order,” I said quietly as we walked past the final office floor. “No unusual activity overnight?”
Amy shook her head. “Nothing that indicates another breach. Security’s logs are clean, and the staff are following protocols.”
I nodded. “Good. Let’s keep it that way. Bella’s monitoring the social channels, and Cole’s team is still watching the perimeter. If anyone tries to stir trouble, we’ll know.”
She glanced at me, her gaze softening. “It’s good to have you here, Daniel. Even if I don’t admit it out loud.”
“You don’t have to,” I said. “You’ve been handling this well, Amy. But I won’t stop making sure you’re safe.”
There it was–that familiar tension between her independence and my protective instinct. I’d learned to let it sit between us, a friction that neither of us could fully resolve, yet it reminded me why I stayed close.
After the building walkthrough, we returned to the packhouse. The northern Elders had already received our updates, and there were no urgent calls. For the first time in days, I could breathe without feeling like the walls were closing in.
Amy moved to the window, watching the sunset filter through the trees lining our territory. “It feels almost normal,” she said, “like the chaos is finally behind us.”
I joined her, placing a hand lightly on her shoulder. “Normal is temporary,” I reminded her. “But yes. Right now, it’s calm. We’ve earned it.”
She turned to me, a small smile forming. “Earned it, but not wasted time. Carter Holdings is secure, and the pack is stable. I want to make sure we don’t take a step backward.”
I nodded, “And we won’t. We’ll maintain patrols, monitor communications, and keep security tight. But we also need a chance to live again, not just survive.”
Her eyes met mine. There was understanding there, but also that familiar stubborn streak. “We survive by planning, Daniel. We live when the plan works.”
“Then let’s live,” I said. “Starting at the Art House.”
Later that evening, we arrived at the Art House. The familiarity of the space–the scent of paint and old wood, the scattered brushes, the canvas leaning against the wall–felt like a sanctuary.
Amy immediately moved to her desk. reviewing notes and sketches, while I checked the perimeter sensors and security systems around the property.
I’ve run a full scan.” I reported. “No anomalies. Nothing unusual detected inside or outside.“.
She nodded, still absorbed in her work. “Good. Let’s hope it stays that way.”

I wandered through the house, making sure the alarms were fully functional. Even though the threats from Elias, Mark, and Clara had subsided, I couldn’t shake the instinct that danger could appear at any moment. My wolf kept alert, ears twitching at the slightest creak, senses attuned to any shift in the air.
Amy’s phone buzzed. Bella’s message: “All board members confirmed safe. No suspicious meetings were detected today.” Amy exhaled, letting some of the tension slip from her shoulders.
“That’s good,” I said. “Means our monitoring is working
“Yes,” she said, eyes still on her notes. “But we can’t let our guard down. Someone with pack–level knowledge could still move without leaving obvious traces.”
I stepped closer. “We’ll handle it together. Just like we have been.”
Her gaze met mine, and for a moment, the office, the threats, the past chaos–all of it–fell away. There was only us. I reached out and brushed a strand of hair from her face. “You don’t have to carry all of this alone,” I said.
“I don’t,” she replied softly. “Not with you around.”
The tension in her shoulders eased, but the planning never stopped. I knew it never would. Amy thrived on control, and now that the threats had quieted, she was turning her focus to the future–Carter Holdings, the pack, and her place as Luna.
We spent the next hour discussing the next steps for the company. Amy outlined strategies to strengthen ties with investors, improve corporate security, and ensure the pack’s opinion remained in our favor. I offered input from a security and territorial standpoint, keeping the discussion grounded in reality.
At one point, she leaned back and smiled faintly. “Daniel, do you remember when we first started building Carter Holdings? It was chaotic then too.”
I laughed softly. “Yes. Except back then, it was mostly paperwork and arguments about budgets. Now it’s threats, fires, and rogue activity.”
“Much more exciting,” she said, smirking.
I shook my head. “Exciting isn’t the word I’d use. Dangerous, yes. You’ve handled it well, though.”
Her smile softened. “We’ve handled it together.”
Later, we prepared for the night. I double–checked security, and Amy reviewed her corporate logs. The world felt safer, but I stayed alert.
My wolf prowled just beneath the surface, ready to respond if anything changed.
