Chapter 527 Questions And Answer
CLARA
I was led back to the holding room after the morning session of the tribunal.

The door closed behind me with a metallic click, and for a few seconds, I just stood there, breathing slowly, counting my options.
Every detail of the trial, every question I had been asked, was still fresh. I knew what the council expected. I knew what Daniel and Amy expected.
I had to adjust my strategy without appearing desperate, without giving away my thoughts.
The room was small but clean. The window allowed a limited view of the compound, but that didn’t
matter.
My world was here, in the space between questions and answers, in the hours when no one observed me directly. That was where I could plan. That was where I could prepare.
I sat down at the table, my hands resting on its surface. I reviewed the morning session in my mind.
Each question had been layered carefully, designed to expose not only what I had done but the reasoning behind it.
The council wanted clarity, the kind that could be verified with documents and witness statements.
They had all the resources they needed to confirm events, yet they were still questioning. That meant they were uncertain. Uncertainty was the opening I needed.
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. It was the officer assigned to me.
“Time for your review,” he said.
I nodded. “I understand.”
The review wasn’t like the tribunal sessions. It was smaller, one or two officials asking focused questions, testing consistency, and listening for hesitation. They were also observing how I reacted under pressure.
I stood and followed the officer to the adjacent room. Inside, two tribunal aides waited with tablets in hand.
No interruptions. No unnecessary questions. Just straight–to–the–point inquiries.
“Clara,” one of the aides began, “we are continuing the review of your actions leading up to Amy’s kidnapping. Please answer each question clearly and directly.”
I nodded. “I will.”
They started with the basics: timelines, meetings, communications. Every response had to be precise. I relied on my memory and my notes.

I spoke slowly, methodically. I avoided exaggeration, avoided omissions, Clarity was my tool
“You were aware of Mark engagement to Amy,” the aide stated.
“Yes,” I replied.
“And your involvement with him during that period?”
“Limited to professional coordination,” I said. “No decisions were made outside of council directives”
The aide paused, then asked, “Did you gain any advantage from the kidnap of Amy?”
I considered my response carefully. “I did not seek advantage. My actions were consistent with protocol and council instructions.”
They nodded, writing notes on their tablets. Then came the most difficult line of questioning.
“You were involved in planning her kidnap,” the aide continued. “Explain your role clearly.”
I drew a breath. “I facilitated communications as instructed by the council. I ensured all procedures were followed. I did not influence the decision beyond implementing directives.”
The other aide leaned forward. “Documents show your correspondence with certain intermediaries. How do you account for those?”
I looked directly at both of them. “All correspondence was professional. All instructions were executed according to the chain of command. No personal gain was involved. No actions were taken without authorization.”
They didn’t respond immediately. I could feel their scrutiny. I didn’t flinch. I didn’t pause. My mind was calculating the next steps. Every answer had to be factual. Every reaction observed could become evidence.
“Was any harm intended to Amy Valen?” the first aide asked.
“No,” I said firmly. “Any harm that occurred was unintentional and a consequence of circumstances, not action on my part.”
The session continued for over an hour. They asked about my interactions with Daniel, my communications with other council members, and my knowledge of Elias’s coordination.
I answered truthfully when it didn’t harm me, cautiously when it did. Each time I spoke, I measured the weight of my words against the potential interpretation.
By the time the session ended, I was mentally exhausted, but I had maintained control. I returned to my holding room, noting every detail I could recall.
The aides‘ expressions, their pauses, the way they wrote notes. Every subtle clue was valuable.
Once alone, I reviewed the council’s motives. They wanted facts, yes, but they also wanted a narrative that could be publicly presented without controversy.
My answers had to align with reality while also protecting my position. That meant anticipating each step
