It seemed that the term best friend was the biggest joke in the world. When pitted against men, love, and money, female friendship was nothing more than glass that shattered easily.
While Giselle was lost in her cynical thoughts following Vivienne's outburst, Renee approached her. Her eyes were bloodshot and filled with hatred.
She said, "Giselle, do you really have to burn everything to the ground? You have a daughter now.”
"Imagine this. Your daughter grows up and gets engaged. But then, some slut uses dirty tricks to ruin her wedding, openly steals her fiance, and then conspires with that vicious man to sell her into slavery abroad where she suffers endless humiliation..."
Renee continued, "She finally escapes and drags herself home, barely alive. But before her physical and mental wounds can heal, that evil man frames her and throws her in prison.”
"She is driven to madness, diagnosed with schizophrenia, and attempts suicide every day. If your daughter was tortured like that, wouldn't you want to flay the person responsible alive?"
Renee hurled these questions at Giselle, her voice dripping with venom and trembling with suppressed sobs. She sounded as if she were the one who had suffered endless torture, completely scrubbing away the crimes Anne had committed.
Giselle felt no emotional fluctuation hearing this. She only found Renee's selfish face utterly ridiculous.
She took a deep breath and countered with equal intensity. "Renee, why don't you imagine a different version? Say you have two daughters. One adopted, one biological.”
"You treat the adopted one perfectly, yet she bites the hand that feeds her. She steals your biological daughter's husband, drives her to her death, and engineers a car crash to murder you and your husband.”
"Then, she sits on the billion-dollar fortune you worked for, sharing it with the cheater, all while trying to wipe out the family line by repeatedly attempting to murder the child your biological daughter left behind."
Giselle leaned in, her eyes cold. "If you and Tony were watching from the afterlife, would you let that adopted daughter off the hook?"
