Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11 You Crossed The Line

Hugh picked up the divorce agreement and skimmed through it.

Then he looked up at Bethan, closed the document, and put it back.

Gazing at Bethan, he said in his usual composed tone, “So, you’ve got the nerve to bring up divorce. You’ve really grown.”

Bethan slowly rose to her feet.

After loving him for so many years, she hoped for a peaceful split.

Her eyes fell on the divorce agreement as she said as steadily as she could, “Over the years, you’ve done a lot for my family. I’ll walk away with nothing. All your assets are tied to the Cavill Group, and you can’t afford any scandals. If necessary, I can hold a press conference and take all the blame to clear her and the kid’s name.”

Hugh propped his elbows on his knees, leaned forward a bit, and rubbed his temples tiredly. “Go ahead,” he said.

With a blank look in her eves and a numb expression. Bethan said, “I’ve already signed the divorce agreement. Whenever you’re free, we can go get the divorce certificate.”

Right in front of Hugh, Bethan started to take off her wedding ring.

Hugh reached out and grabbed her hand to stop her.

He stood up slowly, his eyes fixed on Bethan’s face. “Bethan, things between me and Megan aren’t what you think,” he said.

Bethan yanked her hand back. All the pent-up grievances and resentment welled up.

With her eyes red-rimmed, she stared into Hugh’s and said word by word, “Then what are they like?

“On that rainy night, you went to the airport to pick her up and didn’t come home for over a month. Don’t tell me you didn’t sleep together, and don’t tell me that kid isn’t yours.”

Hugh’s face darkened. “Bethan, you say you love me. Don’t you have even a shred of trust in me?”

“Trust?” Bethan staggered back a step.

She pushed Hugh hard and raised her voice. “On our third wedding anniversary, I set up a candlelit dinner and got you gifts. But my husband rented an entire beach to watch fireworks with his first love and her kid. And now you’re talking about trust?”

“Did Gwen tell you?” Hugh asked.

Tears streamed down Bethan’s face.

So he finally admitted it.

Her voice quivered as she said, “Since I married you, I learned to do the laundry, cook, tie your ties, and keep the house. I did everything I could, always afraid I wasn’t good enough for you.”

She broke into sobs. “I asked you to make matcha truffles for me, and you just threw money at me. But you made a blueberry birthday cake for them with your own two hands.”

Hugh watched Bethan pour out her heart in silence.

So that night when she asked him to make matcha truffles, she was testing him.

The calmer he was, the more it hurt Bethan. “You never used to stay out all night. But for them, you forgot our wedding anniversary. You left home at three in the morning. And you gave me the same anniversary gift as you gave her!”

Hugh frowned.

So that night, she didn’t lose the bracelet by accident.

She chucked it away after seeing him with Megan in the hospital.

By the end, Bethan was almost yelling, “You crossed the line for them. You went shopping with that woman during work hours. When I caught you, you pushed me away to protect her!”

Bethan was in so much pain that she could barely breathe.

She grabbed her hair with both hands. “I was missing for days, crying myself to sleep in a tiny motel. I felt like my world had fallen apart. But my husband didn’t even give a damn about me!”
