Chapter 125 Stop Overthinking

Though Hugh had dropped the case against her, he still held the original documents.

He could send her back to jail anytime he pleased.

His infidelity, meanwhile, was a moral failing, not a legal

one.

Her evidence against him was toothless by comparison.

A knock at the door broke her thoughts. Bethan glanced down at the white robe wrapped around her, then opened it.

Hugh stood there, in a dark robe loosely tied, his damp hair gleaming under the light.

He led her to the sink, picking up the hairdryer to dry her hair.

His long, graceful fingers moved through her strands with gentle care.

quiet. “Hugh, let me go!”

His lips brushed the corner of her mouth.

“Do I need to remind you what’s in that agreement?” he

murmured.

Late at night, through the half-open bathroom door, flickering light spilled across the floor, accompanied by muffled groans and broken whispers that seemed to last forever.

When Bethan opened her eyes again, it was already late the next morning.

She tried to move, but every shift of her body made her wince. The lingering ache reminded her of Hugh’s wildness the night before.

From the bathroom to the bedroom and back again, he had been relentless-like a starving wolf that couldn’t get enough of her.

Hugh stepped out of the walk-in closet, already dressed in a perfectly pressed suit, radiating confidence.

He glanced at her, then turned away to answer.

Bethan sat up in bed, quietly watching him.

The man standing there, sharp and controlled in his suit, exuded the authority and restraint of someone used to power. He looked nothing like the man who had been so unrestrained, almost feral, in bed just hours ago.

The phone, which had been on silent last night, now rang loud and clear, as if he wanted her to hear every word.

And she did. She caught every line of his conversation with Megan.

His voice softened when he spoke to her, telling Megan that he had bought Hudson a model warship and would drop it off later.

He even reminded her to take care of herself and Hudson,

not to overwork.

Bethan’s grip on the blanket tightened until her knuckles Hook.

When Hugh finally hung up and turned back, he immediately noticed something was wrong.

He walked over, sat on the edge of the bed, and reached for her hand-only to feel how badly she was trembling.

His gaze lingered on her for a few seconds, conflicted.

Then he said slowly, “Bethan, Hudson is my son. That’s a fact no one can change.”

Bethan lifted her head. Her eyes were rimmed red.

Her lips moved before the words came out, strained and unsteady. “I never tried to stop you from being with them. But do you really have to rub it in my face?”

They locked eyes, the air between them heavy with

tension.

After a pause, Hugh replied, “That was a normal conversation. You don’t have to take it so personally.”
