Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 13

Chapter 13 Know How to Manipulate Her

Hugh made no attempt to hide his intentions. “Bethan, I’m a businessman. I didn’t marry you for nothing. I didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement because I was confident you wouldn’t be able to get a single cent of my money.”

His tone was cold and heartless.

Bethan was left speechless.

She knew that when a marriage was on the rocks, all that was left were the numbers and self-interest.

Fighting back the tears, Bethan fumbled in her bag, took out a pen and paper, and started writing an IOU.

Her voice quivered as she asked, “Tell me, how much do I owe you, principal and interest included?”

Hugh snatched the pen from Bethan’s grasp. “Back then, I forked out a fortune to settle the Olsen family’s debts. A measly

I won’t cut it.”

Pushed to the brink, Bethan had never imagined Hugh would corner her like this.

With tears welling up in her eyes, she demanded, “Hugh, what on earth do you want?”

Standing up straight, Hugh adopted a business-like tone. “Divorce is fine. Considering you’ve been my wife for three years, I’ll give you a break. Just come up with a billion dollars in cash.”

Frustration reddened Bethan’s eyes. “I can’t manage that right now.”

Hugh placed his hands on Bethan’s shoulders and softened his voice. “Then just be a good Mrs. Cavill and quit having crazy ideas.”

Losing her temper, Bethan shoved Hugh away. “I can’t do that either!”

Hugh let go of her and spoke coldly, “Bethan, I was willing to shell out big bucks to keep our marriage stable.

“If you can’t make this marriage work, the Olsen family has to pay me back. You can’t have it both ways.”

Bethan stared blankly at the man she’d loved for ages.

So, in his eyes, their marriage was nothing but a business deal.

Hugh added, “Think twice before you decide. Your mom just got out of the hospital after a heart bypass. The follow-up care and medical bills are no joke. If I take back that property, you’ll have to figure out where your parents will live.

“And your little brother? His teacher called me. He’s a math genius, always at the top of his class. If he leaves that swanky private school, his future will be in jeopardy.”

Bethan stood there, numb as a statue.

Hugh knew exactly how to manipulate her.
