Chapter 133 Don’t Go Near Her
She shifted, trying to sit up, but Hugh woke instantly.
He pulled her back into his lap, holding her by the waist. “Why didn’t you leave a light on for me last night?”
Bethan lowered her eyes. “Next time I’ll be more careful. I won’t make such a childish mistake again.”
She had spent half a year in Canada. With Megan around, Hugh hadn’t needed her to wait up for him in a long time.
This demand wasn’t about lights. It was about control. It was a reminder of the marriage contract he had forced on her, his way of molding her into the Mrs. Cavill he wanted.
Her words were stiff, formal, deliberately distant.
Hugh’s expression darkened.
“Since you understand so well,” he said coldly, “recite the marriage agreement again.”
Bethan agreed without hesitation, then slipped away to

wash up.
Hugh sat at the edge of the bed, silent and grim.
It was a holiday morning. Neither of them had anywhere urgent to be, but the house-though enormous-felt suffocating with the weight of unspoken words.
When Bethan finally picked up her bag to leave, Hugh spoke. “Miranda’s being discharged tomorrow. Christmas is only two days away. This afternoon I’ll go with you to the mall. We should buy something for Miranda and
Vincent.”
Bethan nodded and opened the front door.
“Bethan,” Hugh called sharply, his face still hard. “Did you forget something again?”
She froze for a moment, then seemed to realize what he
wanted.
She walked back, rose on her toes, and brushed a quick kiss against his lips.

task handed down by a boss.
Before he could react, she turned and walked out.
The door was left ajar. Hugh stood there, watching her step into the elevator.
He couldn’t name the feeling exactly, but he knew one thing-he hated her attitude.
The ringing of his phone broke his thoughts.
Close to ten in the morning, Hugh arrived at Megan’s apartment complex.
He glanced around the living room. “Didn’t you say Hudson was hurt? Where is he?”
Megan rushed to explain. “Hudson wasn’t just hurt. He was terrified. He cried all night. His water gun was smashed to pieces by Mr. Barry Olsen, and first thing this morning he begged for it. My mom took him out to calm. him down.”
Hugh hesitated before speaking. “You shouldn’t spoil him Boomuch. A child raised without boundaries will be 16:39

Megan lowered her eyes, guilt written in every line of her face. “You can’t blame Hudson, Hugh. I greeted Mrs. Cavill politely, but she glared at me. Hudson was only being overly polite when he stepped in. That’s what caused the misunderstanding.”
Hugh’s expression hardened, his tone unreadable. “Megan, you know why I acknowledged Hudson as mine. It’s because of my guilt toward you, because I wanted to protect you both. And you also know it’s the very reason my wife resents me. I’ve warned you before. Don’t go near her. Even if you cross paths, there’s no need for greetings.”
Megan’s entire body went tense, nerves written all over her.
She forced a weak smile. “You’ve misunderstood me. We just happened to meet in the hallway. I only said hello out of courtesy. But her brother… he was so hostile to us. He didn’t just hit Hudson. He picked him up and threatened to throw him to the ground. He was terrifying, like some kind of monster.”

A flicker of irritation crossed Hugh’s face. “Megan, Barry is her brother. Watch your words.”
The sudden shift in his tone caught Megan completely off guard.
He had once been willing to raise his hand against the Olsens for her sake. Why was he suddenly defending
them now?
Masking her shock, she forced a smile. “You’re right, Hugh. My tongue got ahead of me. I was only trying to describe what happened.”
She lowered her posture, and Hugh chose not to press the matter. “Since Hudson isn’t here, I’ll head back.”
Instead of holding him back, Megan urged him on. “I really am sorry, Hugh. If I’d known Hudson used my phone to call you, I would’ve stopped him.”
She walked him to the door. “Hugh, Mrs. Cavill is back now. You two finally reconciled. Even if Hudson calls again, don’t come over. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, I won’t disturb you either.”
