Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 146

Chapter 146 I Want to Break Your Hand

The sudden ring of the bedroom phone snapped Hugh out of his thoughts.

It was Fiona calling, asking him to bring Bethan back to Cavill Manor for their family Christmas dinner that evening.

Hugh turned her down flat. From now on, he told her, he and Bethan would spend Christmas with the Olsens first, then swing by Cavill Manor the next day.

Fiona didn’t argue.

Around noon, the Olsens were busy prepping for their evening meal when Bethan walked through the door.

Barry took the black security case from her hands. “Bethan, you actually got the jewelry back?”

Miranda had Barry stash the jewelry in her bedroom, then pulled Bethan into the dining room. “Bethy, level with me—how did you really get that jewelry back?” 16:45

The money from selling it was still clutched in her hand. She knew damn well Bethan didn’t have that kind of cash.

Bethan tried to ease her parents’ worry. “Dad, Mom, Hugh paid top dollar to get it back for us.”

She didn’t tell Miranda and Vincent that Hugh had retrieved the jewelry days ago. She also kept quiet about how she’d swallowed her pride, pushed through her psychological barriers, and used the most degrading method imaginable to pry that jewelry from Hugh’s hands.

Miranda and Vincent exchanged a quick glance before dropping the subject entirely.

Later that afternoon, while Bethan was helping bake cupcakes, Hugh showed up at the door with his medical

kit in hand.

Barry took one look at him and stormed off to his room.

Miranda’s and Vincent’s expressions weren’t exactly welcoming, but they didn’t kick him out either.

Afgh slipped into that familiar, humble, polite Jersoha 45

he always wore around Bethan’s parents. “Merry Christmas, Miranda, Vincent.”

Miranda gave him a curt nod before disappearing into the kitchen. Vincent grunted an acknowledgment and returned to moving the cookies to the dining table to cool.

Before Hugh could say anything, Bethan quickly ushered him into her room.

It was Christmas, and the last thing she wanted was to cause more drama for her family.

After she finished applying his medication, Bethan started packing up the medical kit. “You should head back and explain things to your family. My mom just got out of the hospital, and I want to spend the holiday with my family.”

Hugh buttoned up his shirt with that same elegant

composure. “I already took care of it. We’re staying here tonight.”

Bethan blinked in surprise. “Aren’t you worried about Boer dad and grandfather getting mad?”

Hugh reached out and tucked a strand of her hair behind. her ear. “Don’t worry about them.”

Bethan didn’t respond, just turned and left the room. She should have known he hadn’t just come over for medical

treatment.

Bethan headed to the kitchen to help Miranda, while Hugh went to Barry’s room.

Barry was hunched over his desk, tinkering with a computer motherboard. When he spotted Hugh walking in, he shoved his earbuds into his ears.

Hugh glanced at whatever Barry was working on and hooked his finger around the earbud cord, pulling it out. “Looks like the LED voltage tolerance on your peripherals is shot. Try swapping it out with a different one.”

Barry shot to his feet. “Mind your own damn business!”

“Watch your tone,” Hugh reminded him calmly. “I’m your sister’s husband.”

Barry’s hands clenched into fists. “You’re not my sister’s

husband-you’re the bastard who’s been hurting her!”

Hugh’s hand landed firmly on Barry’s shoulder. “Look, I accidentally injured your wrist last time. Tell me what it’s going to take to make this right.”

Barry’s teeth ground together as he glared up at him. “I want to break your hand the same way you broke mine!”

Without hesitation, Hugh extended his left hand toward Barry. “A man’s word is his bond. Go ahead.”

Barry didn’t waste a second being polite about it. “You

asked for this!”

The sickening crack of bone snapping echoed through the

room.

Hugh let out a pained grunt, and Barry finally felt satisfied-he’d gotten his revenge.

Hugh glanced toward Bethan, standing in the doorway, then walked over to her despite the throbbing pain in his

wrist.
