Chapter 147 Call Him Daddy

The Olsens were determined to have a peaceful holiday, so everyone carefully avoided bringing up anything unpleasant. The family dinner went surprisingly smoothly.
By the time Bethan and Hugh left, it was already past eight in the evening.
Hugh gently took her hand as they reached the sidewalk outside the residential complex.
He looked at her with earnest eyes. “Things between Barry and me are settled now, and that jewelry set is yours. Can we just put everything behind us? Fresh start?”
Bethan gave a noncommittal nod. “Sure.”
The past would fade-the good, the bad, all of it. Time had a way of smoothing over everything eventually.
But she was done tearing herself apart over other people and their drama. She wanted to live brightly, to embrace 1/6
every bit of sunshine life had to offer.

Hugh’s gaze softened as he looked at her, his eyes filled with unmistakable tenderness. “We just finished dinner- want to take a walk?”
Bethan hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
Hugh walked hand-in-hand with Bethan along the sidewalk, his tall frame cutting an impressive figure in his dark suit and long black coat.
Bethan looked elegant beside him in her crimson blouse and cream-colored jacket.
A gust of cold wind swept through, tousling Bethan’s long hair and catching the hem of her coat, revealing a glimpse of her skirt beneath. She looked like a rose blooming defiantly in the winter chill.
The amber streetlights stretched their shadows long across the pavement.
Behind them, a black Bentley followed at a discreet distance.
Across the street, Megan sat in her white sedan, eyes

burning with jealousy. She whispered something urgent in Hudson’s ear, and Hudson obediently opened the car door.
Hugh noticed Bethan’s pace slowing in her heels. Without warning, he swept her up into his arms. “You don’t have to put on a brave face with me,” he said softly. “When you’re tired, just tell me. Like before.”
Bethan looked down without responding as Hugh carried her toward the car.
The driver stepped forward to open the door, but a small figure came running just as Hugh was about to help Bethan inside.
“Daddy!” Hudson threw himself at Hugh’s legs with a delighted cry.
Hugh smoothly set Bethan back on her feet, his expression never changing.
Megan caught up and gave Hudson two quick swats
on his little behind. “How many times have I told you, sweetheart? You can’t call him daddy.”

“Daddy, I don’t want to go home with Mommy! I want you to watch fireworks with me!” Hudson wrapped his arms around Hugh’s leg, tears streaming down his face.
When Hugh didn’t pick him up, Hudson turned and scrambled into Hugh’s car instead.
Megan put on a helpless expression. “Hugh, I’m not strong enough to get him out. Could you please pull Hudson down from there?”
After saying this, she snuck glances at Bethan, watching
for her reaction.
Hugh had already acknowledged Hudson as his son to the Cavill family. He’d promised Megan he would never reveal Hudson’s true parentage to anyone else.
Now, with Hudson calling him “daddy” right in front of Bethan, he had no choice but to go along with it.
Hugh’s eyes stayed locked on Bethan’s face, his expression unreadable. “I’ll call you a car,” he said quietly. “You should head home and get some rest.”
Béthan stood quietly before Hugh, tilting her head to16:46

meet his heavy, complicated gaze with a gentle smile.
“Don’t look at me like that,” she said softly. “I’m fine, really. I can just grab a cab home.”
The more Bethan smiled, the darker Hugh’s expression became.
She turned to hand Megan the medication. “His wrist is injured-make sure he takes these on time, okay?”
Megan glanced nervously at Hugh’s thunderous face before accepting the pills. Seeing how scary he looked, she quickly apologized. “I’m so sorry, Mrs. Cavill. I should have been watching him better. I didn’t mean to cause you trouble.”
Bethan shook her head with a warm smile. “It’s
Christmas. You should be together today. This was my oversight. I’ll make sure to remind him about these things during holidays from now on.”
Before she could finish speaking, Hugh stepped forward and took the medication from Megan’s hands. “Get in the car,” he told her quietly.
