Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 149

Chapter 149 Bethan Wasn’t Home

Her voice cracked a little. “Sometimes I think…if I’d just refused to marry when your grandfather forced me to, or if I hadn’t been weak enough to have this kid after everything I went through…maybe Hudson wouldn’t be in this world, suffering like this.”

Hugh comforted her gently, “Megan, you’re the victim here. You chose to have Hudson because you have a good heart-none of this is your fault.”

He glanced at his watch and sighed. “It’s getting late. Let me drive you two home.”

When they pulled up to Megan’s apartment complex, she lingered in the backseat instead of leaving immediately.

Hudson had fallen asleep against her shoulder, and she seized the opportunity. “Hugh,” she said, her voice carefully casual, “Hudson’s dead weight when he’s sleeping like this. Could you maybe help me carry him

upstairs?”

Before Hugh could respond, the driver had already stepped out and opened her door. “Ms. Ridley, I’d be happy to help you get the little guy upstairs.”

Megan’s face fell slightly, but she smiled and climbed out. So much for that plan.

By the time Hugh made it home, it was well past midnight. Bethan would definitely be asleep by now. He punched in the door code, but just as he was about to step inside, the elevator dinged behind him.

Mason emerged, shaking his head. “I wouldn’t go in there if I were you. Bethan never came home tonight.”

Hugh glanced back at Mason, refusing to believe Bethan wasn’t home. She’d promised him after coming home late last time that it wouldn’t happen again.

Mason strolled out of the elevator at his usual leisurely pace and followed Hugh inside.

The room was dead quiet. Hugh pushed open the

bedroom door, and only then did he accept that Bethan

hadn’t returned.

He stepped back into the living room and tried calling her. Her phone was off, again.

Hugh’s expression darkened as he turned to Mason. “Where is she?”

She’d promised to come home early every day, stop hanging up on him, and keep her phone on. And here they were, just one day later, right back to the same bullshit.

Mason rolled his eyes. “What’s the big deal? You just got back yourself.”

Hugh’s face went black with anger as he headed for the door to find her.

Mason blocked his path. “Look, Arthur’s a piece of work, sure, but with Tristen watching his back, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

Hugh yanked his arm free from Mason’s grip, and the motion pulled up his sleeve, revealing white bandages wrapped around his wrist.

Mason’s expression turned serious. “You’re hur” 16:46

Hugh stayed silent. The injury on his wrist wasn’t the only one-his back was torn up, too.

And Bethan knew damn well he was hurt, but she hadn’t bothered to ask.

He’d checked the secondary card’s transaction history earlier. Bethan had blown through over two million. dollars at the Regal Hotel tonight, ordering seven male and female escorts.

Perfect. Just fucking perfect.

Hugh slumped onto the couch and lit a cigarette.

Mason clapped him on the shoulder. “You can’t have it both ways, man. You get to act like a complete asshole, but Bethan can’t blow off steam? She’s moved on-why can’t you?”

Hugh clenched his jaw. “She hasn’t moved on. She’s got a death wish.”

Mason shrugged. “So just kill her. The Olsen family’s got no power anyway-what are they gonna do to you?” 4/6

Hugh shot him a withering look.

Mason wasn’t about to let it slide. “So on Christmas, you dump your own wife on the side of the road to go watch fireworks with them? You really love her that much?”

Hugh snapped back, clearly irritated, “Hudson’s just a kid who got carried away and called me dad. What was I supposed to do?”

Hugh continued, “Look, Bethan wears her heart on her sleeve-she can’t keep secrets. If I tell her Hudson isn’t mine, my grandpa will find out within days. And if he knows the truth? He’ll come down on Megan and Hudson even harder than he did six years ago.”

Mason said, “Well, if you’re planning to play daddy forever anyway, why not just marry Megan? Wouldn’t that be more convincing?”

Hugh felt that familiar tightness in his chest and took a long drag of his cigarette. “I’m never divorcing Bethan for Megan and Hudson. Never.”

Mason sighed heavily, “Hugh…do you seriously not see
