Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 150

Chapter 150 Hold That Thought

“If she still loved you,” Mason continued, “do you really think she’d be pushing you straight into Megan’s arms?”

He leaned forward. “Tell me something, Hugh-you don’t love Bethan, but could you stand watching her run off with another guy?”

After Mason left, Hugh stepped onto the balcony to smoke. Standing in the cool night air, he had to admit the brutal truth: he didn’t love Bethan. But he was also sure about something else-he couldn’t handle the thought of her being with someone else.

By five in the morning, Hugh still hadn’t slept, and Bethan wasn’t home. Her phone was off-again. This was the second time she’d gone radio silent and stayed out all night.

At exactly six AM, Logan’s call shattered the quiet. Harvey had taken a bad fall and was in the hospital.

When Hugh rushed over, the entire Cavill family had already gathered.

In the hospital room, Ryan’s voice cut through the quiet like a blade. “Hugh, why are you here alone? Where is Bethan?”

Hugh kept his eyes down, saying nothing,

Fiona jumped in to smooth things over. “Come on, young people have trouble getting up early-it’s totally normal. We’re here; that’s what matters.”

Ryan wasn’t having it. His voice sharpened as he turned on Hugh. “Your grandfather is lying in a hospital bed, and she can still sleep in? Call her right now and tell her to bring breakfast over here.”

The exhaustion was written all over Hugh’s face, especially around his eyes. “Dad, I’ll have her come by later.”

Gwen could tell something was seriously off with Hugh. She pulled out her phone and dialed Bethan’s number. Everyone in the room could hear it clear as day—straight to voicemail. The phone was turned off.

Ryan immediately turned to Fiona. “Call Logan. Tell him Po go get her himself.”

Fiona didn’t want to, but what choice did she have? Here they were, the day after Christmas, with Harvey back in the hospital again. Everyone was here showing their support-everyone except Bethan. It looked terrible.

Just as Fiona reluctantly reached for her phone to call Logan, Gwen’s phone buzzed. Bethan was calling back.

After a quick conversation, Gwen hung up and addressed the room. “She says she’s on her way.”

Hugh’s hands, hanging at his sides, slowly curled into fists.

He’d been calling and texting her since last night, making multiple calls and sending several WhatsApp messages. And now that her phone was back on, she hadn’t even bothered to call him first.

Bethan arrived at the hospital within minutes.

When she knocked and entered the room, everyone’s expressions shifted instantly-because not only was she clearly drunk, but she was also wearing a man’s jacket. The bright, flashy color made it obvious it wasn’t Hugh’s. 3/6

She shook her dizzy head, trying to clear it. “Fiona, Ryan, good morning.” After politely greeting them both, she walked straight to Hugh. “What happened? Why is Harvey suddenly in the hospital?”

Hugh’s face darkened. She could barely walk straight, yet somehow she was still managing to sound coherent.

Before Fiona or Ryan could say anything, he pulled Bethan against his shoulder, wrapping his arms around her.

“Hugh, what the hell is going on here?” Ryan demanded, pointing at Bethan.

Without missing a beat, Hugh replied calmly, “It was Christmas yesterday. Bethan had a few too many drinks with her parents.”

Before either of them could respond, he added, “She can’t help here anyway. I’ll take her home.”

Hugh quickly ushered Bethan out of the room before anyone could object.

The two of them reached the elevator, and Hugh ripped the coat off Bethan’s back and tossed it straight into the trash.
