Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19 Interrupt Your Affair

Back in the master bedroom, Hugh had rolled up the sleeves of his white dress shirt, revealing a strong forearm. Dressed in black slacks, he looked more like a man on a mission than a husband tending to a sick wife.

He stayed by her side-taking her temperature, helping her drink water, wiping her down, and keeping her cool.

He looked calm and focused, like he was carrying out a task, not nursing the woman he loved.

“Huggie..” Bethan’s hands moved in the air, reaching out blindly.

He gently took her hands in his, wiping her palms with a tenderness he didn’t even realize he had.

Even in her dreams, she was calling his name. There was no way she was truly ready to leave him.

Tonight had been his mistake. She’d been so emotional, and instead of waiting for her to calm down, he’d just walked away.

Bethan stayed in a fevered haze for two or three days, sleeping on and off. When she finally woke, her head was still heavy.

She’d missed the meeting Brandon had arranged with a senior colleague named Tristen Dixon-stood him up completely. She needed to send a message and apologize.

Walking out of the bedroom, she noticed the study door was open. Inside, she heard Hugh on a call.

It was a weekday morning, just after ten. Why hadn’t he gone to the office?

Hugh came out just as she reached the hallway. He saw her standing there, dazed, and walked over. He raised his hand to check her forehead.

Bethan turned her head away, dodging his touch.

His expression hardened. “Bethan, is this the kind of attitude a wife should have toward her husband?”

She didn’t answer. It was like she hadn’t heard him at all. She turned and walked toward the stairs.

She wanted to scream. She wanted to let it all out. But she didn’t have the strength or the right.

When she returned to the bedroom, neither of them mentioned the word “affair”. But without that topic, Bethan realized that they had nothing else left to say.

She headed toward the walk-in closet, but Hugh caught her wrist.

He pulled her back. “Why didn’t you call me? You were unconscious for three days. Do you even realize that?”

Bethan looked up at him. Her voice was calm. “I didn’t want to interrupt your affair.”

He didn’t care about her. Why would he care if she got sick?
