Chapter 20 My Name Is Megan Ridley
Gwen, worried she might get dizzy from low blood sugar, followed closely behind, carrying a thermal container of soup that her mother, Fiona, had prepared.
After more than an hour running between departments, Bethan finally completed all the check-up procedures.
Gwen, now holding a thick stack of test forms, stepped out of the elevator with Bethan. “Come on, you need to sit down and eat something.”
Just then, a young boy dashed past and bumped straight into Gwen.
The forms and the thermal container crashed to the floor. The container rolled a few feet before being stopped by a trash can.
“You!” Gwen shouted after the kid. “Get back here!”
Bethan reached out to stop her. “Gwen, let it go.”
Not far away, Megan had just stepped out of another elevator. She froze when she heard someone call out the name Gwen.
Hes gaze flicked from Gwen to Bethan, then back agam—until 9 finally, her eyes locked onto Bethan.
After returning to the country, Megan had secretly met Bethan once, behind Hugh’s back. She recognized her instantly.
So this was why, despite all her hints and attempts to get close, Hugh had always held back and kept his distance.
Bethan had that rare mix of innocence and allure. She was the kind of woman men couldn’t help but fall for.
Expression unreadable, Megan walked over calmly.
She deliberately ignored Bethan and bent down to pick up the test forms, handing them to Gwen.
“Excuse me,” Megan said politely, her voice light but curious. “Are you by any chance Ms. Cavill?”
Gwen took the documents from Megan’s hands and glanced at Bethan-immediately sensing that something was off.
“Do we know each other?” Gwen asked cautiously.
Megan brushed her hair behind her ear and cast a quick look at Bethan. “I just overheard someone call you Gwen. My friend’s sister is also named Gwen, so I asked on a whim.”
The color drained from Bethan’s face, little by little.
She had already suspected Megan’s identity the moment she saw her figure and hairstyle.
But when Megan asked about Gwen’s last name, she still hadn’t been completely sure.
Then she saw the diamond bracelet on Megan’s wrist. And that confirmed everything.
This woman standing in front of her was Megan-the one Hugh could never forget, the woman he’d always cherished.
Bethan stood frozen, unable to move, unable to respond.
Gwen narrowed her eyes at Megan, her tone more guarded. “That’s right. I’m Gwen Cavill. And you are?”
“Ms. Ridley, your driver is here,” a housekeeper said behind 4/6 Megan, carrying a small bag of medication. “It’s time to head home.”
Megan offered one last polite nod. “I’ll be on my way, then.”
With perfect grace, Megan turned and walked away.
Bethan stood motionless, watching her figure disappear down the hall.
She wore designer clothes and surrounded herself with luxury brands. A housekeeper followed her everywhere, and a personal driver waited outside with the private car ready at all times.
Hugh had given Megan everything.
Bethan’s chest tightened, the pain impossible to suppress.
All the emotions she’d worked so hard to bury came surging back. She collapsed onto the corridor’s bench, completely overwhelmed.
Gwen rushed forward, anxious. “Bethan, why didn’t you slap her?”
Tears welled up in Bethan’s eyes. Her lips trembled as she struggled to speak. “I…”
But as soon as she remembered Gwen’s explosive temper, she abruptly shut her mouth.
Gwen steadied Bethan, placed her purse next to her, then turned to chase after Megan.
Bethan barely missed grabbing her arm and quickly hurried after her.
