Chapter 201 You Assume the Worst of Me
Arthur seized the chance to say, “Bethy, maybe this place’s atmosphere’s bad. I haven’t been sleeping right, and I swear I feel like I’m dying.”
Before Bethan could speak, Hugh cut in with a grim face, “Thirteenth-floor tenants are fine. What are you scared of on the eleventh?”
Arthur shook Bethan’s arm and pleaded, “Bethy, how about I crash at your place tonight?”
Hugh pushed Arthur away, wrapped an arm around her, and said firmly, “Not happening.”
Bethan turned to Hugh and frowned. “You smoked out his room, you know? Letting him sleep over for one night won’t kill you.”
“Damn straight.” Arthur clutched his pillow, following her and throwing Hugh a mocking stare. “It’s not like I’m sharing your bed, so what’s your problem?”
When Hugh noticed how tired Bethan was, barely able to stay awake, he didn’t argue further.

About half an hour later, she finished tidying the guest room for Arthur and went back to the master bedroom.
Seeing Hugh sitting on the bed, face dark and motionless, Bethan climbed in, switched off the light, and flat-out ignored him.
The next morning, just as the three of them were about to head into the dining room for breakfast, the doorbell rang.
Bethan thought it would be Mason coming over to mooch a meal, but it turned out to be Elsie.
Elsie shoved Bethan aside, walked straight up to Hugh, and said, “Mr. Cavill, Megan ran into trouble last night, and she’s not doing well. I told her to call you, but she wouldn’t. So, I had no choice but to come here.”
Hugh glanced at Bethan before asking Elsie, “What happened?”
Elsie deliberately glanced back at Bethan and added, “Mr. Cavill, this isn’t something I can explain in a few words. If you come with me, you’ll see for yourself.”
Hugh stepped in front of Bethan, his expression filled with hesitation.

be serious. Go on, hurry.”
Seeing how composed she was, Hugh felt a swirl of mixed emotions inside.

He gently took Bethan’s hand, but when she tried to pull away quietly, he only held on tighter.
Hugh then turned to Elsie and said, “Ms. Davis, you should just go. If Megan is in trouble, she knows how to find me.”
Elsie was stunned at how unbothered he seemed. “Mr. Cavill, I realize it’s awkward with your wife here, but your thing with Megan is no secret among us.”
The moment she said it, something sharp and dangerous glinted in Hugh’s eyes at her.
Still clueless, Elsie pressed on. “Mr. Cavill, even though Megan has no title with you, she still gave you a son. Right now, she’s in a terrible state, and she needs you.”
Hugh’s face hardened while he told her, “Ms. Davis, it’s time for you to go.”
“Don’t waste your breath on that hag,” Arthur scoffed as he flung milk at her, and Elsie let out a scream as she scrambled

Watching Elsie leave in embarrassment, Bethan tried to persuade Hugh. “I know you’re worried about Megan. Just go take a look, so you won’t regret it later.”
Meeting Bethan’s gaze, he said, “Do you really have to assume the worst of me, Bethan?”
Bethan shot Hugh a look that said he’d lost his mind, then dragged Arthur toward the dining room.
Ten minutes later, Elsie got into a white car parked by the road.
Megan blurted the moment she saw her, “So, Elsie, what did he tell you?”
With suspicion all over her expression, Elsie asked, “Megan, is Mr. Cavill actually the father of your child?”
Megan looked evasive. “What makes you bring that up now?”
Elsie complained, “I went to Hugh just like you said. He didn’t care at all, and he even let that mutt throw milk all over me.”
Megan’s face turned awkward as she brushed it off. “Maybe it was just that his wife was there, and it made things
inconvenient.”

At three in the afternoon, Megan met Fiona at a cafe in New
York.
Megan came straight to the point. “Mrs. Fiona Cavill, you said you had a way to get Hugh to divorce his wife quickly, so he and I could be together openly. Is that true?”
Fiona gave Megan a glance and gracefully set down her coffee
