Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 203

Chapter 203 The Triangle Would End

19 min left

After Megan left, Gwen hurried over from a nearby table. “Mom, what were you talking about with Megan for so long?”

Fiona raised her coffee cup and took a small sip. She understood that Megan might not be bright or charming, but her hunger for power was strong, and she wouldn’t miss this opportunity.

And a woman who had lost hope in her marriage would cling desperately to even the smallest chance of escape. If Bethan had truly wanted a divorce, she would never have wasted this opportunity by so readily agreeing to treat Megan.

Fiona knew Hugh’s stubborn streak all too well. She knew that for Megan’s sake, he would find a way to push Bethan into agreeing to the treatment.

In that case, Bethan could turn the tables, using the treatment as leverage to force him into divorce. When that time came, he’d have no way out.

Then, Hugh would either choose to keep his marriage and give up Megan, or he would sacrifice his marriage to secure treatment for Megan and divorce Bethan.

No matter which way he chose, this triangle would finally end. As a mother, this was the only thing Fiona could do for her son and for the girl she had watched grow up.

Near the end of the workday, Hugh got a call from Fiona, inviting him to dinner. Right after that, he tried to reach

Bethan.

But Bethan ignored his call and instead texted him, saying she’d be having dinner at Keating Mansion and told him not to

wait.

Hugh felt stifled, staring at his phone with a dark expression, not saying a word for a long while.

Watching Hugh’s face cloud over once more, Jacob hurried to come up with an excuse and ducked out.

When Hugh headed home after work, Bethan, as expected, wasn’t back.

By seven, Hugh showed up on time at the restaurant Fiona picked. As he pushed the door open and spotted Megan and her child, his expression froze.

Fiona pointed to the seat next to Megan and said, “What are you standing there for? Sit down.”

Hugh stayed rooted to the spot and asked, “Mom, what exactly are you trying to do?”

Seeing Hugh react so strongly, Megan stood up nervously and said, “Please don’t be mad, Hugh. Mrs. Fiona Cavill just misses her grandson and asked me to bring him over.”

Hugh gave her a long, scrutinizing look, then headed off without another word.

But Fiona set her water glass down hard and ordered, “Stop!”

Hugh stopped in his tracks and looked over his shoulder.

Megan gave him a pleading look and tugged him back down into his seat.

Ignoring Hugh’s darkened expression, Fiona said, “Megan’s mom fell sick after quarreling with Megan’s brother and his wife, and Hudson got shaken up, too. You’re his father-why haven’t you done a thing?”

Hugh scowled, lines tightening between his brows. “Mom, can you please stay out of my business?”

you to handle it yourself. Have you handled it?”

As the tension between the two grew, Megan grew restless. She spoke up timidly, “You’ve got it wrong, Mrs. Fiona Cavill. Hugh actually takes good care of us.”

Fiona looked her over with disdain and asked, “Megan, really? This is the best you can do? Your affair is the talk of the town. You drag our family’s name through the mud, and we still have to hold our heads up in public. You may not mind being second best for life, but have you ever thought of your son?”

She practically tore into both her son and Megan without holding back.

Hugh’s face darkened, looking downright frightening. “Do you have to be so harsh, Mom?”

Fiona didn’t ease up. “You’ve already done things that disgrace the family. Why shouldn’t I call them out? Your woman and son are right here. Have you even thought about them?”

Hugh’s brows drew together, while Megan lowered her head to hide her emotions.

She felt that, judging by Fiona’s tone, she was ready to acknowledge Hudson as her grandson.
